Recent matches I've played against new opponents and videos I've seen on the internet lead me to believe that I K-turn significantly less often than most other players. Really, I just kinda hate the maneuver and use it only in the utmost extreme of circumstances. I'd much prefer to push white-knuckle turns around asteroids or try to loop somewhere and come at another target, or set myself up for next turn and evade. Am I in the minority here?
So, in short, I want to know your thoughts on the kiogran, how often you feel you do it and for what faction. I exclusively play Imperial, (so perhaps it's because I have many better dials) but I K-turn MAYBE 1-2 times per match tops.
How often do you K-Turn?
I only K-turn 1–3 times a match. The only ships that "need" to K-turn more are the B-wing (with that awesome 2-K) and the Defender (I used to get stressed when flipping a 180°, but now it's only when I turn left or right).
I use them moderatley often. By which I mean, there will be times when they give a clear tactical advantage, when my opponent will 100% be in my arc while I'm right behind them or the like. It's an intuitive thing. But I hard turn a lot to, and try to set it up so that a hard turn the next turn will leave me in a good spot. Approaching at a 45 degree angle can work really well.
depends really, with rebels Im U-turning a lot more than with imperials, because being pointed at the enemy for the rebels is a lot more important than flying around trying to stay alive
I live by the rule "When in doubt, point guns at enemy and pull trigger" when playing X-Wing. It all depends on how the engagement is going and positioning. I will K-Turn if it gets me on target quicker than just turning or banking.
I'm always looking to have a shot at enemy ships, I also want to "Stay on target". If the maneuver happens to be a a K-Turn so be it. An unfocused attack is better than no attack at all.
i do over 6 k turns per match cause i like to flip !!!
I do it mostly after disengaging so I can regroup. I'm usually running Ties and Ints so I need my action for barrel rolls and boosts.
I generally try to avoid K-turns, but sometimes they are just the best maneuver at the time. So it really depends on a lot of factors (what ship I'm flying, what ship my opponent is flying and our respective play styles).
i K-turn maybe once every 2 games
I don't think you can tell if you are k-turning enough or too much from a number. The rule I try to follow is: Good firing position is more important than your action. That leads me to do a lot of K-turns. I really feel the lack of the K-turn on the shuttle. K-turning after something other than a joust style fly-by can really surprise your opponent. Being where your opponent doesn't expect is almost as good as good firing position.
I find that I even K-turn a lot with the Fire-spray since it sets me up to be in good position on subsequent turns as well.
I use advanced sensor b-wings, so pretty frequently. When you effectively have a 2-k as a white maneuver you find a lot of situations where another maneuver would probably get you a shot, but the k-turn makes it almost guaranteed.

Advanced Sensors on B-wings give me K-turns for free. I K-turn a lot more with my b-wings since You can avoid ever losing an action
I like to k turn across asteroids, as I am losing the action anyway.

I thought you were the quintessential fly casual guy? But yet flying the most competitive build B-Wings w/ Advance Sensors, interesting. The build with the B's will do a lot of flipping around as he mentioned, you never really lose an action, until you face an Ion Turret.

I do it with X-wings a lot just to keep in firing range. Stress tokens are much less scary in this game than in Star Trek.

WTF? How does "don't be a rules lawyer and obsess over explicitly announcing every little detail of the rules" imply "don't use good ships"?

What does stress do in Star Trek?

Sorry didn't know that was a sensitive spot. I just always took casual as let things slide, experimental builds and putting fun over winning.

Because Adv Sensor B-wings are insanely fun to play. They're in the TIE/ptl department of crazy fun.
As for how often I K? When not K-ing means getting shot in the back because the fighters I flew straight at K-ed.
