How is vader dealing damage?

By Krynn007, in X-Wing

Just wondering if I'm alone on this, but had anyone wondered what is vader doing to cause 1 crit dmg,and 2 to his own ship?

Just a random thought Ive had.

If he is using the force then wouldn't it by pass shields? And why so much dmg to his own ship?

Remember in the duel in Cloud City where he was all "I don't care if it's structural, I'm hitting Luke with it"?

the force works in mysterious ways, do not question it.

anyway, what's going on is that you have this happy stormtrooper blasting happily away at the target, then Vader sees him, "you have failed me for the last time", chokes him, and toss his body across the cabin, hitting some panels and instruments along the way. 1 damage for the stormtrooper, 1 damage for whatever stuff his body hit. Then Vader does his force choky choky, and gets another stormtrooper to take over the guns.

rinse and repeat until you run out of stormtroopers and unbroken instruments

Admittedly, though, it is kind of a stupid ability. he is smarter than that and wouldn't destroy his own ship with .. you know.. him in it.. and, they could have given him a better ability.. like.. allow the ship he's on his Advanced ability, it's still unique and you can't fly him as crew and the TIE advanced...

I personally think they could have done much better with Vader (crew)

Simple answer to your question:

That dude is crazy!

I just wonder when they were designing this ability what was the discussion around the table lol.

As much as I do love this game I can't help wonder how do they come up with some of these ideas. I wonder what other ideas they had for vader crew card

While I don't know if the ability fits Vader the best It reminds me of black cards from Magic. I think they were channeling that general idea. If nothing else the card needed to be a Unique and it's a fun card for the game to have(but too good against Interceptors.)

Assuming he's on the shuttle, he's probably like...tearing off wings or something :P
Then he'll just eject via escape pod

I'm guessing he is pressing home an attack so hard to get that crit hit, maybe to the point of it being harmful to his own ship? Like the maneuvers are stressing the thing out or something...

Doesn't he fly a Star Destroyer into an asteroid field chasing the Falcon. I suppose I could be misremembering.

Some interesting ideas.

Just seems so counter productive lol.

On the card it looks like he is fighting in a corridor.

Like I mentioned earlier, it just a random thought I had, and wondered if anyone else ever have it any thought.

Asteroids do not concern me Admiral.

Yes he did, but it was his SSD and those were mere nuisances to such an enormous ship

I understand he is a bit self destructive.. but on a small ship it's more detrimental...

I just think they could have done better on his ability there...

Edited by oneway

While this is a good conceptual idea, one can do his ability after any maneuver, so after a green kove.. what then is stressing the vessel..

I get what you mean.. it's just a stupid ability to me. I have yet to use it, and may never... plus.. your destruction of your own ship.. puts points to your opponent in a tourney.. I believe.. so, a silly idea at the least...

Simple. He flips the switch to divert all power from shields and life support into the weapons. Then, he's like "screw you guys, my suit has its own air supply."

He's not hurting his own ship so much as "motivating" his crew. It's not Vader himself who's damaging the opponent's ship, it's his shuttle's crew being made to focus more on their efforts... or else.

Sorta like in Warhammer 40K, when a Commissar can summarily execute one of his own Imperial Guard personnel so that the rest don't lose morale.

And, it must be said, Darth Vader is a hella lot scarier than any Commissar...

Vader is pretty hard on the crew of the ships he is on.

I find your lack of faith... disturbing.

Lol

I believe every time you use Vader's ability he has a flashback of his youth and sees Jar Jar messing with his pod racer and that is enough to tip him over the edge.

I have always thought it should have been something like "lose 1pt of pilot skill to do one damage" that could represent Vader killing the pilot for "failing him for the last time" and promoting another crew to pilot, motivating him to do better. That new pilot would not be as good as the original hence the lower ps. Or something like that.

It's "You have failed me for the last time!" He's 'motivating' the crew to hit harder.

And it's two damage, because they will double their efforts.

He may seem counterintuitive on small ships, but he will be amazing on Epic ships with their "recover" ability.

Provided, of course, that the Empire will get huge ships and those are capable of taking crew.

But how would you explain the uniques keeping their pilot ability?
