This has already been covered... However there's still some ambiguity.... (Or the fact those I was gaming with)
So a quick dit... Three of us decided to catch up with a bit of xwing, 100 pts each, and just have a massive mêlée.
5 ties, One Lambada, 2 X with 2 Y and 2 X with 1 Y.
Here comes the problem and it involves ion cannons...
My two ties that were left after turn 5 began to retreat to the board edge with what ever dignity they had left... Pursued by a Y wing and two X Wings from the remaining player. He used his ion cannon....
Rolled 1 Hit.. I rolled 2 Evades.... He said theion cannon effect still took place because he scored a hit and I "evaded" the damage. Now surely if you evade something it doesn't even strik you in the first place?
So whats the clarity? As with Adv Torps on my bombers I've let him evade all the damage before; surely its the same for ion cannons?
We trapsed through loads of forums etc but they all seemed to support that you can EVADE the ion cannon.... But unless its in the FAQ he won't adhere to it.
Suggestions?
Ion Cannon Dramas
For your ship to be "hit" by an Ion cannon, there have to be uncancelled <hit> or <crit> results. If you cancel all the <hit> and <crit> results your opponent rolls, you suffer no damage and no Ion effect. Your buddy is incorrect.
**Edit**
If they won't back down because this isn't addressed in the FAQ, have them take a look in the rulebook, page 12, Section 6 - Compare Results. It very clearly states how one determines if a ship is "hit".
Hope this helps, and if it doesn't, smack them upside the head.
Edited by ElJeffe313Similarly, you get to have a 2nd attack from Gunner if you have no uncanceled <hit> or <crit> results.
We bracket the names of the results, because a Hit and a little star on a d8 are related things, but very much distinct.
He did NOT hit you. The definition of a hit us quite clear on page 12 of the rulebook.
In order for a ship to be hit there must be uncancelled explosion symbols at the end of the compare results step, if there is not (as in your example) then the target was not hit and ion does not trigger (unless Lt. Blount was shooting, of course).
