Deck Recommendations

By Mountain Dewback, in X-Wing

Hello everybody! I am a casual x-wing player who really loves the game. I was wondering what people would recommend for my next ships. Here is my current fleet:

Starter set (2 ties, 1 x-wing)

Tie bomber

Tie Interceptor

Falcon

B-Wing

Tie Advanced

X-Wing

I know the conventional wisdom is to have two starters sets, but I prefer to get new ships to expand my options. I am also not looking to spend more than $30 at this time. Any thoughts on what direction to go in?

Thanks! I've been lurking in this forum for a couple months now, very excited to become an active poster.

Definitely get the rest of the expansions, so that you know what you'll want in multiples.

You are currently missing:

Tie Fighter Expansion (Howlrunner has the best pilot ability in the entire game)

Slave-1 Expansion (Somehow, I missed that you didn't have this. Aggressively costed, and even with ignoring the cost, this is the best ship in the game. Without upgrades.)
Lambda Class Shuttle Expansion (An odd duck, but can be extremely potent, and comes with a superb suite of upgrades)
Imperial Aces (A holy host of exciting new pilots and upgrades. Also gives you 2 ship models, which is useful)
A-Wing Expansion (A great and versatile ship already, with a buff on the way in Rebel Aces. Also, Push the Limit)
Y-Wing Expansion ("Dutch" Vander is a phenomenal pilot, and the upgrades here are great)
HWK-290 (An odd duck, but comes with great upgrades, and can be very powerful for new players)

The Firespray (Slave 1) is a fun to fly, upgradable ship with some cool pilots and abilities ....BOBA FETT? Where? Plus it should come in at less than $30.

And welcome to the forums. Only been on about a week myself :)

My recommendation would be get the TIE Fighter and Y Wing Expansions. Both will give you new cards to play with ships you already have. (Ties gives you new pilots where Y-Wings gives you 2 new Astromechs) My second choice would be Imperial Aces, once again cards to match up with stuff you already own.

To me the "obvious" miss is the Firespray (Slave I) for any number of reasons.

Right now I believe you can make a competitive Rebel squadron (although another fighter wouldn't hurt there) but it looks to me like building a "good" Imperial squadron could be a challenge.

I too recently started X-Wing and have gotten at least one of everything just so I could see what all the pilots and upgrade cards looked like and to see how they all fly in casual games. Tournaments are a ways off for me yet, still getting used to the water so to speak. I'm now starting to get multiples of certain ships. Up to 4 TIE fighters and 3 X-Wings and going from there.

The bigger ships coming out might change the game a lot. Will be interesting to see where that takes the game. But for now, enjoy what you like flying best and build up as you can.

Yeah, I'm probably getting either the Firespray or the Imperial Aces expansion. I feel I need to get a big ship for the Empire, but I'm a sucker for both tie interceptors and the royal guards, so the Aces expansion is hard to resist!

Por que no los dos?

Imperial Aces would also get you the Imperial Ships to field a good squadron. All of those Interceptors may not make a "traditional" Imperial Squadron but it could let you try those three and four fighter builds.

Well talk about coincidence. My wife came home from shopping today and gave me the Imperial Aces pack that she found at B&N. Dilemma solved!

You owe her! That's someone that really cares about you. ;)

Composite usually is more hassle free but usually doesn't look as nice as the real stuff (not magic= no deck).

Firespray and shuttle will make you a better pilot. As will those Aces.

My suggestion is to buy the following in the following order—

If you want Imperial: Firespray-31, TIE fighter, Lambda

If you want Rebel: Y-wing, A-wing, HWK & Falcon

Preferably make sure you have at least one of each expansion, at least for the cards.

I'm going yo agree with all of the above, but seriously get another starter or two. You will want to be able to fly a tie swarm at least sometimes and having three or four of them to block while other ships flank is also priceless.
