So I was looking at the vader crew upgrade card and was curious if this card bypasses shields? I'm sure this has been answered before but I couldn't find it. Anyone know if this is the case?

I believe the card says "deal 1 critical damage". So treat that as you would treat a crit attack die.

Suffering Damage does not bypass shields, regardless of its source


The only reason that Proton Bombs do is because they never mention Crits, or damage, or anything. They straight up deal a card, which ignores shields as it never dealt damage.
Porkins' Pilot Ability will do the same.

It's useful on a ship with cheap hitpoints, like the shuttle.

It's a trade-off. You're picking up a free unblockable crit AFTER your attack, and you're trading 2 HP for the privilege.

He's best on a ship with lots of HP and very little cost for its crew-slot (like the Omicron Group Pilot's 21 point Shuttle).

The idea is to deal more than 24 points worth of damage with your DoomShuttle, as then you've made a profit, aye?

You've never faced the doom shuttle, have you? It can be quite terrifying. Their higher PS ships deal some damage and strip away your shields, then the shuttle fires. Even if it misses they can deal you a free crit. The doom shuttle can ruin your day, so you better take it down quick. So no, not a dumb card by any means.

Is this a 'rinse and repeat' strategy, I'm guessing with a squint, where you can pick off the rebel ships one at a time? Otherwise it would appear to be an expensive, one-use strategy which ties up 2 ships to take out 1 opponent's ship.

Is the Doom Shuttle of use against an XXBB flight?

I had a fun, entire collection, friendly, using naked, lowest cost point version of all the ships in my list. I annihilated my friend, who was fielding the rebels, but the only ships I lost were the OGP and a Saber Squadron squint. The OGP managed to strip the shields from the B-Wing before it was taken down by the Ys and the HWK.

one-use? no - vader can be used for every attacks, so unless you get destroyed in 1 round youre getting multiple uses out of it. If you have more pressing targets they might ignore the shuttle giving you more use out of vader, ties up 2 ships to take out 1 opponents ship? I don't get your meaning, typically it takes many ships to take out 1 ship, if I have 3 interceptors and a doom shuttle, I may end up using all 3 interceptors to take out shields from a ship, and then use the shuttle to finish him off.
