Jan, Luke, and Wedge make a nasty team too.
The little HWK that could!
I placed second in a store championship with..
Kyle Katarn, blaster turret, moldy crow, recon specialist
Wedge, marksmanship
Luke, R2-D2, sheild upgrade, and the upgrade to take crits from others.
I had 2 full wins and a modified win against a tie swarm
Here is the Squad:
Biggs + R2-F2 + Stealth Device
Garvin + R2-D2 + Shield Upgrade
Kyle Katarn + Opportunist + Blaster Turret + Recon Specialist + Moldy Crow
I played a could games with this squad and did amazingly well. Kyle was able to power up the focus battery. Even at times when all my ships bumped no pilots shot with out a focus. Opportunist + Blaster Turret, really made the HWK shine. No one is ready for a HWK to shot at you with 4 attack dice.
I made some minor mistakes so next time I play with it I'll do better.
However I was up against 2y wings, another hwk,and Garvin in xwing.
The Ys and hwk all had ion Turrets
I took it slow and by the time I was in range kyle had 8 or 9focus tokens. 2 each turn for his abilities and Garvin would always pass him one
I made 2-3mistakes
First was during the first round of combat.
I flew in a good formation and had everything where I wanted, when he attacks biggs, I was at range 3, through an asteroid, I was suppose to get 6 evade dice but rolled 5. I thought I counted the stealth device but later realized that I didn't
Plus I forgot to pass my token at the start of combat from Kyle to biggs.
My opponent rolls 2 hits. I rolled 3 blanks, 1 evade and 1 focus. Had I remember to pass that focus I could have kept my stealth plus I was also 1 evade dice short so that could have made a difference. Just a simple miscount.
I then made another mistake later on, forgetting to pass the token again from Kyle. ( I hardly use the hwk)
It is late and was our second game so we were getting tired.
I lost in the end but it was a good game and I see lots of potential.
I'd definitely user or again. Especially since I've learned from my mistakes
Thanks for posting this
Edited by Krynn007This is a squad you need to practice with, There are a lot of interactions going around. I Always take the R2-F2 action with Biggs. Kyle passes his focus to Biggs and if more then two ships are firing at Biggs I give him Garvin's focus as well. The only time Kyle passes to Garvin, is if has no focus ( like after a K-turn or bump ) and the Garvin passes it to Biggs.
I played a game today against 4 interceptors. Soontir was flying flank approaching from behind. I remained in a jousting position with the 2 Squints in front of me as Soontir turned in for that sweet spot. By the time Kyle was ready to defend our asses Soontir had no focus and left himself at range 1 of Kyle. I happily took the stress spent one of my many focuses and fired the Blaster Turret. I rolled 2 hits 2 eyes, focus laid out four hits for Soontir to deal with. He rolled 1 evade and 2 eyes. Bang! Pew pwe! Pop! Yup, you just lost a Interceptor to a HWK with one shot.
Nice
Ya I find when flying something new for the first time it'll take a couple tries to nail it down.
It was fun, lots of synergy, and tons of potential.
Any idea how it does against swarms, and large ship squad?
I'm a little to early in testing to effectively answer that yet.
The defensive powah of Biggsie Smalls is indeed lifted by the extra 2 agility dice, and I found out that if I traded Garven for Ibitsam, the theme of this squadron soared even more:
Kyle Katarn - Opportunist - Blaster Turret - Moldy Crow - Recon Specialist
Biggs Darklighter - Stealth Device - R2F2
Ibitsam - Sensor Jammer - Elusiveness
= 100 ptn.
Just TRY to hit these!

I'll have to try this out
I like the b wings

It is definitely a different take on the Focus Battery build. That is going to be one hard to hit B-Wing. One of the things I like about Garvin in the build is, his Focus pass. Not to mention the ease of navigating two X-Wings together versous an X and a B. You are already limiting the movement of the X's to help keep the HWK out of harms ways. By adding a B the challenge goes up to keep under the protection of Biggs and still maneuver for good shots at you opponent. Since Biggs will take a lot of shots early on and he's carrying a fragil Stealth Device, giving him two focus to survive as long as possible with that modification.
Have you had a chance to field the HXB squad you posted? I'm really curious to know how it performed. I'd also like to know just how well the armored up B-Wing performed.
