Unable to add URL links to forum posts...

By DarthValon, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi all!

I have sent multiple tickets and requests for help to find out why I cannot add a URL link to forum posts, with it stalling the page and being unable to click the OK button to complete the addition.

I have tried multiple different browsers on different computers with the same result. I have some contact to share with the FFG community, so any suggestions or input would be helpful!

Can't help except to say that I have had numerous problems with the forum here. I tried to link to a Wikipedia page the other day and I eventually gave up. The URL had an ' in the link and I think that sent the software into its initial paroxysm. But even when I tried to remove the link it was still going crazy and I couldn't get out of the mess. Everytime I hit "Edit" to amend my post it would load with the subsequent paragraph missing. So I left it as is.

I use IE11 which is a really nice browser, but this site definitely has trouble with it. I also have problems with quoting people. Or I did until I realized I could press the switch in the top-left and swap to a more old-fashioned way of doing things. Now I can actually see and edit people's quotes. I don't know if that will help you with your issue or not, but mentioning in case you haven't tried that, yet.

I can't help with your problem, but I also have weird problems with this forum.

I can't copy and paste anything into a post from my PC. I also cannot Quote or Like anyone's post on my PC.

I can do all of those things from my phone.

How are you adding the links? Are you just pasting them, or are you using the "link" button in the editor? And for that matter, does the HTML editor show up with the tool bar?

I have almost the exact opposite issue. From my computer, anything is possible. From my phone, basic responses only (but Like This works). Still, It's better than RPG.net Forums where I can't post from my phone at all.

What type of Phone and PC browser are you using Happy?

I'm on an Iphone 4s (which works), and a Windows 8.1 Surface Pro 2 with IE browser (which doesn't work).

PC is an HP laptop running Windows 7 with Firefox. Phone is Nokia 1520 (Windows phone). I've previously had the same issues with RPG.net on iPhone 3GS and Samsung Galaxy S2.

So something in Windows 8 or IE may be the key to our problem.

I'm soon to get a Windows phone, so my days of quoting and "Liking" may soon be done! :o

As a side note, entirely off topic, did your phone update to 8.1? I'm really looking forward to the switch to Windows from IOS.

Still on 8.0 no update available yet.

I'm posting this from a Surface 2 (great device, btw), but I've had to learn a few tricks in order to do so. There's something in this site that doesn't play by the rules, I think. I don't know what but if I just hit Quote with the default settings, I got a blank reply box. Additionally, everytime I tapped in the reply box something took me out of it again. To start typing I had to press one of the format buttons such as Bold. Then I'd get a cursor and could type. To actually get the quoted text to appear I had to use Multiquote (even for one) and then hit More Reply Options. Then I'd get the quoted text. However, I've found a shortcut around all of that. I just click the button in the top left of the editor which switches it to some sort of direct mode. This doesn't immediately produce the quoted text, but it remembers that I like this editing mode and the next time I start a reply, things work, including pasting.

Knasserll, that seems to work! Thanks!

Now we just have to figure out how to make "Like This" work.
