From the looks of it, FFG will continue on with X-wing for a while, my last foray into mini gaming is Wizkid's Mechwarrior, that died pretty quickly.
GLAD I FOUND X-WING
They are going to get to the point where they can advance the timeline of the game beyond the 41st millennium without invalidating the name, because 40k will refer to the price of an army.
Except the timeline has come to a screeching halt and they are now going back and erasing certain events from the fluff (I assume so they can re-use them again).
Need proof? Find a reference to the 13th Black Crusade in a 6th ed book. Also, there is no mention of Eldrad ever dying anymore. Weak sauce.
It's now about 11:30 PM December 31st 40,999 and they've called it quits on any new fluff.
Edited by SekacI have to say, you guys are doing a terrible job of convincing me to branch out from X-wing into other minis gaming.

I can recommend Dreadball. It's inexpensive, and a hell of a good time
I enjoy Battlefleet Gothic, Epic (2nd edition Space Marine/Titan Legions -not that new crap), Blood Bowl, Space Hulk, Necromunda, and Mordheim. I also have Dark Future and Trolls in the Pantry for the old guy crowd. I've played 40K since the dawn of Rogue Trader and stopped around v3.5/4, I won't touch it now. I do however have an impressive Dark Angels Great Crusade era army though. Never cared for Fantasy. GW sucks and can bite my shorts however.
Honestly, my gaming group is running this, and an Edge of the Empire campaign. FFG is doing a heckuva job.
Plus, I've got a tournament tomorrow in which I will get crushed. Good times all around.
I make time for both X-Wing and Warhammer, different games to scratch different itches.
Reaper Miniatures has made a great skirmish game for years (and it's still going) called Warlord, but being a miniatures company they don't promote it and it seems hardly anyone knows about it. Bummer.
I am still very big into Warhammer Fantasy, owning and playing 15 armies. The army diversity greatly helps me from getting bored with one. The hobby side means I have a seemingly neverending supply of gray plastic needing paint. hehe. I don't find it expensive at all, espeically compared to the hobby of smoking a cigarette or wasting it on alcohol or other usless quick-fixes. And I update my armies each new release wave.
I guess for me, it's the cost and time versus enjoyment. And so far, my enjoyment from playing Warhammer Fantasy is an all-time high. I can't comment on the 40K side of things as I don't play that game although I do have a large Tyranid army because the models look cool. But 8th edition Fantasy has been the best and most fun version of the game yet.
On the X-Wing side of things, I decided to try out the game as a filler for when my group doesn't have enough time to play a game of Warhammer. FFG's rules are quick to learn, models are very sweet looking, and the game play is pretty fast when especially compared to rounds in Warhammer. After a couple games into X-Wing, it becme aparent that it was no longer just a fill-in game but a permanent part of my gaming hobby.

From this, I think you're either rich, lonely or a spendthrift. Most likely all 3.
So many of you hit my point.
Th Gw way of playing a game in 5-7 turns is silly.
Rogue trader was fun, it was a skirmish level game and played a little like an rpg
You could spend points to level up your main character.
The coolest thing about rogue trader was you could make a vehicle out of anything.
I am selling all but my ork army. Thats going to be over 4k points of marines and 2k of nids. Need cash for transports and blockade runners.
It's fun to bash on GW but very few miniature companies reach their size or market share and those that do will have the same problems. I got into Warmachine/Hordes early on then left the game for 2 years to discover massive $140 models just like GW tries to push. Once they release a book with rules for "large scale games to use your whole collection!" they'll officially be in the same boat.
GW games are fun to play/build/paint if you remember it's a just a game. The comments about Fantasy are right on, I have more fun with Fantasy than any of my games, X-Wing included.
Worth noting that - IMO at least - FFG now use the GW settings (40k/Fantasy) much, much better than GW does...

Hehe. No. I am just good at managing my money and have zero debt (no CC's here either) with a house and a few hundred acres of land paid off and have a family of 4. And I'm not out of my 30's yet. Not meaning to sound like bragging, but definitely not wealthy or lonely either. My wife would agree with anyone who says I have enough models though. But my two daughters enjoy playing Wargames with me and other friends and that is what motivates me most.
Note that I've also been playing Wargames for over 20 years and my collection resembles that. Heaven forbid that I actually get an interest in 40K or SAGA (or other medieval historical wargames).. though I do have some Flames of War armies including US, German, and British from Mid-War era all from Battlefront.

I am trying to get my group in to xwing. Only pulled 3 over so far. Also trying to get back into battletech.
Battletech is my all time favorite game. But all the guys i played it with moved away.

IMO, LOTR is GW's best designed game and I still try and get games in with that regularly, though the group I play with is smaller. I'll still play games of Fantasy and 40K, but it's really just for variety now and I have no interest in regularly playing those again at this point.
