GLAD I FOUND X-WING

By KILODEN, in X-Wing

my group has been playing 40k for years now, they have constant price increases and keep changing the rules every few years to get you to buy a new $80 rule book.

their latest BS move is that they just released 6th edition 40k, what? like a year and a half ago, and have released several codex for their armies. but of course no codex for my army, im still using a 4th edition codex.

this is where it gets better, they are releasing 7th edition in june!!!!!

GW really sucks..........

thats why i am glad i found this game, its much more enjoyable and there is that element of action and suspense as well, GW started pissing me off when they pulled the Squats out of 40k many moons ago, but the last few years they have really gotten under my skin.

well just felt like sharing, have a nice day.

I feel like this game is a lot less GOTCHA, which I felt a lot in 40k. In X Wing, sometimes you get bad rolls and the dice hate you while you watch in awe as your TIE fighters explode left and right, and sometimes Soontir Fel is just unkillable and rolls the entire enemy force by himself. I find it more fun spirited and balanced. Plus, no Grey Knights. I like their fluff, but seriously, that guy needs to be fired.

I love GW's models though. Plastic crack!

Grey Knights are awesome. <_< Granted, I haven't played them since the latest codex came out.

Have to agree with you, was a big 40k player and loved it but after a while the consistent rules debates/interpretations just wore me down and sucked the fun out of it.

I also think the X-Wing players are a more mature and relaxed bunch which makes the game a lot of fun. Great game - easy to learn, difficult to master!

Another happy GW customer joins Star Wars! We are all glad you made it too.

Enjoy the new Imperial Aces Interceptors. I hear they go fasta.

For me it is all about the fun / $$ ratio.

X-wing is my favorite game I have ever played. I just love this game. It also has great models and lest not forget its STAR WARS. I just love this game.

I loved Warhammer as well. But it costs soooo much to play that game. After looking around at other minis games, I am not going to accuse GW of sadistic / sinful pricing policies. Some people feel the game is cheap enough to play (obviously or they wouldn't have any customers). But I have a family. Taking care of my wife and kid have to come before my (I still don't want to grow up) hobbies.

I feel like I have spent a lot of money on X-wing. I have at least 1 of everything much more than 1 of most stuff. But all the money I have ever spent on X-wing is about what it would cost me to update my Dark Elf Army. So what did I do. I sold my Dark Elf Army and bought more X-wing.

Oh, I still have my Grey Knight army. Though, when it comes down to it, with my wife and kid I really don't have time to play much, so playing Warhammer has been shelved for the forseeable future in lue of playing X-wing when I get some time.

Amen Kiloden! I spent untold hours on Warseer defending the faith only to see the army that I love [Orks of course] get nerfed and antiquated into oblivion. The new codex will no doubt have all sorts of shiny in it, but it's too little too late after the debacle of 6th ed. What a piece of trash that edition is and it looks like GW is committed to the pay to win model of game balance combined with crippling power creep.

I just recently bought all of wave 1-3 and a few starter boxes for less than 300 bucks. Three hundred bucks in 40k will get about half the models you need to play in a small regulation game. No thanks. I'm looking forward to getting my wave 4 ships and spending about 1/6 that price.

I only regret that there are no Ork pilots in X-Wing.

Hmm...I wonder if my Dakka Jet is tournament legal?

GW is to 40k as George Lucas is to Star Wars. They've both created fantastically rich universes, and both have eventually become the worst thing to happen to that universe. Both have gone out of their way to demonstrate that A) they hear our concerns, and B) they could not care less about them--such is their hubris. I, for one, cannot wait for the day when GW's completely unsustainable approach to their product blows up in their face and they are forced to either re-invent themselves or (preferably) sell the IP to someone who actually gives a **** about it.

FFG on the other hand, understands the value of building a close relationship with their fans and pay very close attention to our feedback--even if it can't easily be defined in dollar signs.

They've got their hands on IP that has the potential to make them very, very rich but they understand that is a delicate thing because it is also very personal to their fans-- so they handle it with the respect and dedication it deserves.

Games Workshop has jumped the shark in my eyes, I'm afraid. It's no longer a hobby, it's a lifestyle - I mean, seriously, £80 plus for individual models? What's the entry point for the game nowadays? $50 for the rulebook, £30 for a codex, THEN models and paints.. I bet you couldn't get a fully-functioning army for less than £250, probably around five times that if you actually want options to play around with.

I actually sold off a GW army on ebay to pay for X-Wing. Bought it around ten years ago, in some cases I ended up getting more for the models now than I originally paid (especially the metals which I gather are no longer available).

Still play 40k sometimes but I do feel that it has got silly, and given that it's 40k to start with, that indicates just how silly it has become! More interested in the 30k/Horus Heresy stuff which is made of awesome, but stupidly expensive. Branched out into Infinity, Warmachine, Epic and Aeronautica Imperialis, the latter of which is closest to X-Wing but sadly discontinued. Still have most of the models though.

The event that killed 40k for me was when they went from pewter to plastic and the prices went up. Something about the heft of my venerable dreadnought made it feel indestructible, but I had a guy chuck his across the room, could have killed someone

I've been looking hard at Infinity, how are you liking it?

Not going to stop playing X-wing of course, just looking for a good ground skirmish game.

Liked it a lot, it is a great system. Inherently balanced and relies on actual thought as opposed to "lol new model, I win". Having said that it like X-Wing does lend itself to the Pokemon school of model acquisition (gotta have them all!). I'm not playing it much at the moment since our gaming club has moved onto Bolt Action and WFB so not a lot of opportunity.

I am still very big into Warhammer Fantasy, owning and playing 15 armies. The army diversity greatly helps me from getting bored with one. The hobby side means I have a seemingly neverending supply of gray plastic needing paint. hehe. I don't find it expensive at all, espeically compared to the hobby of smoking a cigarette or wasting it on alcohol or other usless quick-fixes. And I update my armies each new release wave.

I guess for me, it's the cost and time versus enjoyment. And so far, my enjoyment from playing Warhammer Fantasy is an all-time high. I can't comment on the 40K side of things as I don't play that game although I do have a large Tyranid army because the models look cool. But 8th edition Fantasy has been the best and most fun version of the game yet.

On the X-Wing side of things, I decided to try out the game as a filler for when my group doesn't have enough time to play a game of Warhammer. FFG's rules are quick to learn, models are very sweet looking, and the game play is pretty fast when especially compared to rounds in Warhammer. After a couple games into X-Wing, it becme aparent that it was no longer just a fill-in game but a permanent part of my gaming hobby.

I played 40K and 40K Epic (6 full regiments). But I have to share, I love FFG and X-Wing. I really like the fact that the minis come pre-painted and their quality and detail, while not at the level of some of you guys, is quite good.

Originally I wasn't even planning on playing. I was going to get a few models because I liked the Star Wars Universe and like the models (both their detail and painting). But now I play to.

Way to go FFG! Thanks

They are going to get to the point where they can advance the timeline of the game beyond the 41st millennium without invalidating the name, because 40k will refer to the price of an army.

I am a GW refugee too! I love modeling, but I hate how they complicate the rules, and the power creep is way to crazy...

Infinity is a fantastic skirmish game. Easily the most cinematic gaming moments ever. Gorgeous models too as I'm sure you've noticed. That said, it depends on what you want out of a game. Due to the very dense terrain required and the brutal crit mechanic, I don't think it'll ever succeed as a tournament game the way X-Wing does. But if you don't take it too seriously, and understand that it can all go wrong very quickly (and you've got opponents that can adopt the same mindset) you'll have an absolute blast! Highly recommend.

I started X-wing the same way. Saw the Tie-Advanced model in the book store and I am a sucker for good models, especially Star Wars Starfighters. Started with just Vader... a few hundred bucks later and now I'm in the dark side.

I have to say, you guys are doing a terrible job of convincing me to branch out from X-wing into other minis gaming.
