Has anyone tried 4 shuttles?

By Krynn007, in X-Wing

A couple of us were talking about some builds, and thought a 4 Omnicron list would be pretty disgusting, and could be a very competitive build

First you have 40 hp total. I don't think any other build out there will give you that many hp, which is a lot to have to fight against

Second 12 attack dice if at range 2-3, and 16 if all some how managed to be at range one.

Even though they only have 1 agility each ship had 10 hp each so it safe to say none will die first round, and well 40 hp just seems like a hell of a lot, even with 1 defend dice each

Plus we still haven't upgraded

16 points are left

One would get vader

As for the others we weren't really sure. Maybe anti pursuit lasers?

Sensor jammer on a couple could possibly really help survival rates, and I know from experience that a shuttle with sensor jammers can be annoying.

Maybe have a heavy laser canon on another

Has anyone ever used 4 shuttles?

If so what did you have for upgrades?

Suggestions?

Do you think this would be a sick build, or would it just be more intimidating than it really is?

Between us we only have 3 shuttles, so until someone picks up another it maybe some time before we can try it, but I think this would be fun for a tournament with the right upgrades

4 Omicron Group Pilots with Engine Upgrades fly surprisingly well, and each come in at 25 points.
Boost makes up for their mobility deficits, and is astonishingly effective on a large base ship. See SableGryphon's Lambda 102 thread.

40 HP is indeed the most you can have in a 100 point fleet. 4 shuttles, or 5 Y-Wings, can pull it off.

Moreover, running 4 ships with 3 attack dice each is rarely a bad idea. 12 dice at range 2-3, or 16 at range 1, is deadly.

Lol

I only have one, but plan on getting another inv the near future

There isn't many tournament in my area but man I would love to fly 4.

Engine upgrades would be nice as well, but on all 4?

I feel having vader on one is a must because that is a free crit, chances are hopfuly good that if your flying vs rebels, that you can strip their shields and get the crit through using vader.

If against imperials, then chances are highly likely vader will get through anyway.

Also if running into a swarm build, I think I'd put my money on 4 shuttles.

If flown properly I think it would be like a hot knife through butter. Lol

I am really not convinced. I have tried many times with the shuttle and while the Advanced Sensors/Engine Upgrade shuttle or the Doomshuttle aren't useless, they just never impress me. I never leave a game thankful I had a shuttle and when I face them, I am nearly overjoyed as they are like seals in the water for a shark. I appreciate the efforts to get them into play, I just literally never see it on the table instead of in theorycraft. It may just be they aren't for me, but I suspect if they were really that great, they'd show up more in a tournaments. Not the case in my (albeit limited) experience.

Shuttles take practice to fly and even if you can fly it well their play style is definitely not for everyone. I only have one shuttle but I run it in just about every list now.

I at first hated the shuttle, but after a few tries, I love it.

For the same cost as a low end X wing you get 10 hp, lots of upgrade options, and 3 attack dice

That 0 maneuver has done very well for me, either keeping me in firing position or blocking my opponent, or if I'm on the other side of the fence, have crashed into it more than once

Put sensor jammer on one and it can get a lot harder to kill.

I remember one game my opponent must have prevented 4 dmg or more. It was very hard to kill

Attack 3 dice hit hit miss. He roll block, and change to eye ball

Attack again same thing

Even though I focus fired each attack he managed to change a hit to a eye ball.

A focus can change that I know, but still sometime you don't always have that focus, and it works quite well, plus makes your opponent think, should he use it, or wait

I love flying 2 shuttles and a fire spray. So far I haven't lost a game with that build

I ran 4 shuttles in the regional qualifier! I was not worrying about placing and just out to have some fun. It definitely git some "wut?" looks. Sadly it was a poor showing for me at 2-3. It would have likely been 3-2 however due to a one time error on my part that allowed my opponent to run a completely fresh shuttle off the board (do look around the larger miniatures to make sure you don't miss a stress token on your ship!). My opponent did not catch it and I had to alert him to it but I figure that is a good way to learn that lesson.

I ran 4 Omicrons with APL + FCS. In hindsight you would be better served with engine upgrades. The first 2 games were solid and complete wins for the Imperial Transport Battalion. You will never see a HSF list die so fast! The problem with the other games were simply maneuvering. It will take you several turns to come about and bring your guns to bear again, all the while being target practice for your opponent. One of those losses could have also been mitigated but I wanted to try a different deployment and strategy, that did not end well.

It would not have hurt either to play a few practice games prior. This was only the second time I fielded this list and also we have not had many games of x wing in recent weeks.

Regionals will be held here on May 3, I will be bringing a more competitive list. 3 shuttles with engine upgrades, FCS, and gunners, + Vader on one. LOL.

I had been thinking of how to run 4 shuttles earlier today. Though I was just going for pure HP. You can get 46 HP in a 100 pt list if you have 4 Omicron Group Pilots and 1 Scimitar. 46 Hits is a lot to go through for any list and you have 14 attack dice base. This list isn't for everybody and I wouldn't bring it to a tournament where I plan to be competitive. Though it would be fun.

Movement is going to be very important. Running a scimitar you'd sacrifice any points for engine upgrades. But if you are able to get the shuttles to cover each other's blind spots it won't be such a big deal.

Give 3 shuttles a try, see how they fly and give you a sense for what they're capable of.

42 HP with 4 golds and an outer rim smuggler

Also get 40 with 4 golds and 2 z95s. 12 attack dice, but spread out over a 6 ship rebel swarm

Please keep it,to,what is currently available

4 Shuttles can get 45 HP(4 hull, One Shield upgrade.)

And why keep our theorizing to what's released. People play with Z-95's all the time in proxyplay. We know all the needed info to check them out.

Sure people play with proxies, but I don't, and you can't use in tournaments.

I'm thinking of running this in the may 31 tournament they are having near my area for the pre release.

Plus I'm also talking about what is currently available. So far wave 4 is not currently available, and I know people who use proxies for what is only available, future release not included

How about

2 OGP, saboteur, APL

2 OGP, Ion

Two to block, two to hang a bit further back and try and ion the buggers, bumping into the front line if that's your style.

I've tried using saboteur a couple times before, but just didn't seem to be worth the points

I know it's suicide, but I can't help feel vader is a must on one.

The one with vader on it gets no other upgrades seeing a he probably going to be the first to die

Ions maybe a way to go since they turn like a truck, but whenever I use them I always feel like I'd rather be 2-3 pts of dmg rather than just one, but in this case ion on 1 or 2 may really work well

Ill keep that in mind
