Suppressive fire in Edge of the Empire?

By Ferretz, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

RedfordBlade, that last bit from the AoR beta sounds great. I might use the barrage rules for that. Thanks!

Well that's a bummer.

Well that's a bummer.

Don't be bummed, friend. There is still plenty of room, and incentive, for Advantage-based suppression.

Consider:

1. "Covering Fire" is currently a special NPC ability, and as such it makes sense to work the way it does. It is simple, reliable, and when the Alliance Officer isn't around, it takes up an Action.

2. If a PC uses "Covering Fire" or some variation of it, they are sacrificing their action to give a +1 Defense bonus to some allies.

3. But if they make use of Advantage-based suppression, they have the chance to reduce their opponents' chances of hitting, AND possibly inflict injury.

So in this case, a PC-version of "Covering Fire" would be an excellent way for non-combat characters to aid in battle, while more combat-savvy PCs would rely on attacking, and using their Advantage and Triumph to shift the tide of the fight.

Redfordblade has an excellent point. The talent allows reliable suppression to be placed on demand. Using Advantage the way several people have outlined in this thread is still perfectly viable, just the results will tend to be more haphazard - but also potentially far more effective. There is certainly room in the game for both options, and without creating new rules that attempt to force PC and NPC behavior, and the potential problems *that* entails.

I agree, let the dice tell the story, you might knock off some minions anyway
