Dev Questions about Suns of Fortune? Sam Stewart joins the Order 66 Podcast on May 11...

By GM Chris, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I know this is a bit preemptive, but I really wanted to get this thread opened as soon as I can. :)

The next episode of the Order 66 Podcast (April 27) will be our annual "live from ReaperCon show" - but after that, we're PLOWING back into the recent supplement book releases!

That kicks off on the very next episode right after ReaperCon, which will be recorded and released on May 11, with special guest and FFG Lead Developer, Sam Stewart! We'll be discussing Suns of Fortune; and (much as we did with Enter the Unknown) we want YOUR questions for Mr. Stewart. Any questions, quandaries or quibbles you have around species, character options, equipment, ships, rules, development, design - anything - we want to ask it! But we do humbly request that you keep your questions to Sun of Fortune related topics.

As usual, you all know we won't be able to ask about any future release topics, and we can't promise to get every question in the show, but we'll do our best with the time Sam is graciously giving us!

Please use this thread to add any questions or topics you'd like for the discussion, and please join us for the live simulcast and chat on May 11, at 8:00pm CST (and heck - on April 27 at 10:00am CST, if you're so bold - and we hope that you are!).

***UPDATE!!! CHANGE IN DATE****

Guys, apologies - but we've had a date change. I'm being forced to fly out for work on the night of Sunday, the 11th.
Thankfully, Mr. Stewart has agreed to be available the night of the 17th! So we'll be delayed by a week. I'm sorry for that. But we WILL be having this episode the following Sunday!
Get those questions in! Sorry for the delay, folks!

Hey there, GM Chris.

This isn't about the show, but I needed to ask. A while back I tried to register for the forums on D20radio. My registration is still pending. I emailed GM Dave a few weeks ago and didn't receive a reply. Is there anyway for me to get authorized?

[email protected]

Thanks a bunch.

Hey. Just in time for my birthday. Joyous!

Hey, I might see you there! ReaperCon is usually held within a ~30 minute drive from where I'm stationed at so I try to go, schedule and finances permitting.

Also, as it happens, I have a question too! Suns of Fortune brought up Selonian Deepwater Docks and the equipment that'd be required for a ship to successfully use them. Now what would happen, game mechanics wise, if the players are dumb and/or brave enough to try it without the specialized propulsion system? I've a fair idea what the pressure would do to the hull and how to handle it, but I'm curious on your take on that also.

This is separate from the question, but I'm really trying to figure out how to win the argument as to why the starship's drive works fine in almost every other condition it's put through, but not water. Aside from really bad corrosive effects sea water tends to have on these sort of things.

Interesting it will be 10 days before my 30th birthday

2 Questions, full of meaty, mechanical crunchiness:

1) Which is Mr. Stewart's favorite Corellian system species?

2) If Mr. Stewart were a character in-universe, what location/locale in the Corellian System would he visit first?

Interesting it will be 10 days before my 30th birthday

And 8 before mine!

Hmmmm....

Sounds like there may be a spam/blocker issue at work here. glewis, I'm going to email you directly - we'll get you registered!

I'll think of some technical ?'s after I get my book back from my buddy. Off the top of my head maybe he can give an idea roughly of how many sector/sourcebooks they are planning? Maybe an idea of how they will be releasing things overall, now with AoR about to pop, will we see a flip flop approach month to month? More than one a month? etc.

I think we are all curious about this, but FFG has a strict no comment policy on products that have not been officially announced.

If they have posted about it the FFG news section, they ain't saying boo.

I'm not talking about specific products or dates though, more general approach and numbers. In addition their strict 'no comment policy' is more of a guideline as opposed to a policy as they have said things in this forum like 'we can't say anything specific about the release of F&D, however, EoE came out in August at Gencon and AoR came out in August at Gencon, so maybe there's a trend there...' they will say cagey stuff like that when asked, which is what I'm talking about.

Question #1: Why Corellia? There are so many areas in the Star Wars fiction to cover, what was it that made Corellia the "must do it now!" locale?

Question #2: It seems like a Corellian sourcebook would be a natural fit to cover Smugglers (see Han Solo). Was there ever a discussion about combining Corellia with the aforementioned career?

Your question #2 is interesting, but from what I've seen so far, regional sourcebooks and career sourcebooks are going to be two different animals. There's certainly a lot of smuggler related material in Suns of Fortune, but it's thematically different from the style established in Enter the Unknown and Dangerous Covenants. Besides, Smugglers are found all over the galaxy, not just in Corellian spacelanes.

I think another point to remember is that while it is safe to assume that each career in each game system will get its own sourcebook, regional sourcebooks don't have a prospective fixed limit.

Question #1: Why Corellia? There are so many areas in the Star Wars fiction to cover, what was it that made Corellia the "must do it now!" locale?

Specifically, Why a more coreward world, why not start with a sector in the outer rim?

Tell Mr. Stewart, the book is gorgeous, the details are excellent but no more variant species please.

Thank you

How did they go about picking which splat books to go with so far? Why Explorer first and then Hired Guns? Is there a method to it?

Are there going to be any adventures using Centerpoint station? And will there be any more pics for the starfighters and swoops in this book?

I can't speak for Sam or the rest of the Star Wars RPG development gang there at FFG, but I would assume the reason would be because Han Solo (A New Hope and before) seems to be the archetype of what 'Edge of the Empire' was trying to encapsulate..and being Corellian himself...well, they just had to go there.

Having said that, I still feel like Tatooine or the Hutt System (Nar Shaddaa and the like) would have been a much better choice for a regional sourcebook that tied in with 'Edge.' Now...to speculate on what regional sourcebook will be their first choice in the AoR line...Hoth?

My question is more technical (I'm Fango on the D20 forums - sorry, haven't posted there in a while). I am new to Star Wars RPGs, having started with Edge...and am not that well versed in canon....but I read in several places that the populations on the planets in the system seem way off. Were the numbers carefully considered (a reason they are so small)? Were they fairly arbitrary, or (dare I say) a typo? Or, do they match some holicron document maintained by LucasFilm, and any thought to adjust them was off limits?

Just curious :)

Corellia fits perfectly with EotE. I think too many people assume that EotE means off in the boonies or wild space. The edge can also be on the fringes of society. I could run a whole edge campaign on coruscant. The cancelled 1313 game was going to be the perfect example.

Huzzah!

Also, Sunday the 18th or is it Saturday the 17th?

Thanks GMC!

I would like to know what the gravity belt was supposed to do, considering it was listed with a price, but did not have an actual entry.

Ah crap, going have to catch it later. Thats landing on my guard weekend and I'll be a bit busy. :( At least the scheduling will work out with Mr. Stewart.

So for those who didn't hear, this podcast got rescheduled for THIS SUNDAY (the 18th of May). You should all tune in. There might even be a bonus special guest. /shiftyeyes

I hope it's another writer that had had a part in writing this book. It's a wonderful source book.
