Prequel artwork in new cards

By Jonzo, in X-Wing

Sorry if this has been pointed out already - it probably doesn't mean a great deal, but while looking at the artwork for the Predator card in the new Tie Defender box - I noticed that the two capital ships in the background are both from the prequels.

Make of that what you will!

I saw that, too. The Recusant -class light destroyer is one of my favorite CIS ships. I don't think we'll get those ships in this game, but it is interesting. It makes me wonder if the Imperial capital ship will be the Acclamator -class assault ship .

Though I hear that someone else pointed out that the artwork isn't new - it was taken from some source book. So it may not be hinting at anything at all.

I've just though, the Recusant (favourite EpIII ship as well) is actually an old ROTJ concept for a Rebel cruiser so yes, it's probably old artwork they've used because it's cool.

The non-film ship I'd most like in the game now actually is the Ghost from the upcoming Star Wars Rebels animated series, just for the design, although it might be too big. Anyway, back to some serious Royal Guard plotting.

Again previous posts I have done have said that alot of the designs and items in the Prequels were in RPG sourcebooks that are a decade older than the Prequels. The fact that alot of the large ships were taken from those designs was a great nod to that old material I grew up using.

I want some prequel and/or clone wars ships in this game so badly. There's not many EU ships left I'd get excited about.

I would have liked to have new factions. But since they haven't done it yet, it doesn't seem likely as the new faction would be so far behind on ships now.

It would probably be hard to fit in the droid and Naboo ships into the game logically, but the many republic starfighters certainly could on either side.

That same picture of Separatist ships is in the essential guide to warfare, specifically in the empire vs. rebels time period

Guh. I hope I don't get saddled with that Prequal garbage.

I hope I don't get saddled with book garbage, ie the sun crusher.

The space tech from the prequels IMO is pretty cool.

There's not a lot of awesome fighter scale ships in the prequels honestly. But I'd LOVE to see the ARC-170. Maybe as it's own box set with two included, one in imperial colors and one in rebel colors. That might be neat as it's possible both factions could use it.

Then again just making it a rebel fighter would be fine too. They have a lot less EU ships to choose from.

The Ghost also has a detachable mini-fighter, The Phantom. Now that makes for done interesting possibilities. the Phantom could operate independently, offer close range support for The Ghost (I'm sure it was some cheesy submarine sci-fi series that had little defence drones protecting the main craft), or The Phantom could dock with The Ghost for repairs.

The concept art for the series also appears to show some mid-size vessels, similar but smaller than a Recuscant, which would nicely fit into the Currently empty Imperial capital ship slot.

I'll throw my hat in and suggest that the upcoming Rebels series will be the source of wave 5 or 6 ........... (Ducks incoming torrent of scorn and homing missiles)

I am a huge fan of Star Wars on screen, but am not totally familiar with a lot of the EU ships ..... Having not seen them on screen, I just can't get excited about a Skipray, although I appreciate that Imp players would love to add a ship with a turret to their squadrons. So to me as an adult fan and to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, I think FFG will try to stick to sources where there is an element of familiarity, ie films and TV series.

I don't want to upset the hardcore fanboys, but too many relatively obscure EU ships (I'm looking at you, K-Wing), would lose that tangible Stars Wars feel that is likely to compel new players to buy and play our belove X-Wing game - because they want to re-live what they've just seen on screen. This also gives players a feel of what the ship is capable of. Everyone knows that an A-wing is fast and manoeuvrable because they've seen it with their own eyes. But an A9 interceptor, just looks like an egg with 2 straws stuck to the bottom!

FFG have got to stick predominantly with mass appeal (and I appreciate that the hardcore Star Wars fan base is HUUUUGE) in order to bring in new customers, it's simple economics. The EU ships may have to wait a little longer before they get some FFG love.

Nice work on some great FFG products. This piece I will be looking at a lot, since it is on an awesome card for the game!

That image becomes more awesome the longer I look at it.

The art is fantastic.

You think flying in space you would experience a lot of Vertigo?

I play a lot of War Thunder and only feel vertigo while climbing straight up in cloud cover. I just tried the new pvp space combat for Swtor, I felt vertigo the whole time.

In he lower right, between the Y-Wing engines, to the right of the Corvette, there's a darker black area. That's where the TIE Phantom is hiding.

Nice catch!

Oh my...how did it get there:) Never noticed that until now.
