My trusted mono-leadership Gondor

By Gizlivadi, in Strategy and deck-building

This is my Gondor deck, inspired I must say by Beorn's deck over at his blog. I thought, however, in adding Imrahil, sucking up the threat but having a readying effect is very powerful early on. Anyway, I won all of the Hobbit saga in one night with this deck, the only quests I had to replay were the first one and the Lonely Mountain, but those are hard in my opinion. Still, pretty good deck, tested against lots of stuff. Battle and siege early on are difficult (Heirs of Numenor, paradoxically).

That's it. A pretty standard, pretty thematic Gondor deck (though I hate the Envoy-Ship captain type allies). Imrahil is amazing because you're gonna chump block and then attack for 6, getting rid of the first enemy hopefully. A pure "weenie" deck, this deck can gather lots of willpower as well as attack. Readying effects are frigging amazing. The card drawing effect provided by Erestor is great. What do you think?

Do you play solo or partner this with another deck?

Completely solo.

Yep, the Imrahil/Squire combo is quite powerful. For zero cost you can quest for 2 points (Imrahil, block an attack (Squire) and attack with 3 (Imrahil). And the Squire additionally lowers the cost of the Custodian by one.

I hate the custodian though. It's so pointless as an ally, totally not worth it..

Never look a gift horse in the mouth, as we say in Mordor Germany. Besides, his 3 HP is worth a lot in quests that have ranged enemies or other effects that cause you damage (To Catch an Orc). And of course it's nice to play the Custodion for little money and to use him right afterwards together with A Very Good Tale to bring some super cool allies of yours into play.

(and hate is such a strong word, Gizlivadi... :P )

I get it I get it, it's just that for my money I'd rather have White Tower Watchman, because the amounts of resources you end up making is insane, and by the time I can afford the Custodian's cost I'd rather play any other leadership ally. Having it's cost reduced as it's big advantage for an ally with such terrible stats is totally pointless for the leadership deck, it would be awesome if it had higher attack power since that's something this deck lacks in it's allies.
