Rugal,

I actually thought of you when I did the bases for these. You specifically commented that you didn't like a base that didn't fit into the game / scene, so I painted to match the stone / tile on the map. Just can't please you, can I? ;) Well, we will just have to agree to disagree on the bases. I prefer to have something other than black. Just think, if you do get around to painting yours, you'll have one less step to complete the base. Less painting = more playing.

Whatever the color or theme you choose, there will be always situation where this would not match with the game scene, so that's why I like black. And black works like a shadow, and it helps me to see the miniature highlight from the map.

If i paint them, but I think i will not since i'm so hopeless and perfectionnist, and if I ever do it, I will do the base black, only black, and nothing more; That's the only way I see it, black and smooth.

We disagree on this one, but I really admire your work, really. I wish I could do as good as you, but I'm so .... crap... with a brush :(

From now on, I will take picture with black base, before I finish, just for you!

wah, I can't wait to see it !

But I will be so jealous :(

Nice work :) Personally i am in two minds about the bases.. i cant decide if i like them based or not !

Take Queen Ariad's base as an example. Does it fit into every campaign, hatching out of the earth? Is she continually hatching out all of the time? No, of course not, but the figure looks better with the base as it is, IMHO. I see it the same with other figures / bases. It just adds to the look of the character, plus they become a good distraction for those playing in my group that continually pick them up to look at the detail, which means advantage for me as OL.

Any advice for getting underneath the lower figs? i.e. Cave spiders.

Painting or basing? For painting I spray black primer at an angle that gets underneath. I'll brush paint slightly underneath, but don't worry too much about painting all the way underneath as you wouldn't see it anyway. To base, I use Elmer's glue, squirt some on the edge and then work as far underneath as possible with an exact-o knife. Then dip in rocks, sand, or whatever.

I was doing mine last night, i cut them off the base with a hobby knife. Trying to paint them any other way is a pain in the butt !

I have wanted to do that on some minis, but am worried I will never get it back together. Do you just glue or pin the mini back on the base?

I am just going to glue them back on with plastic cement
