This question confuses me.
Is there such thing as "enough"?

Is there such thing as "enough"?
I play maybe 3 times a week, a couple times with my friends and once a week with my 7 year old daughter. That's the key, if you have a lack of interest in your area.......breed some players.
But seriously I get as much from painting these models as playing too and that's something I can do alone. I live in the UK at the moment and where I live we have a healthy amount of players. However were in the process of moving to Vancouver Island in Canada. I have no idea who I'm going to play with so I intend on encouraging my daughter to play more, my son to start when he's old enough and forcing the wife too start playing too. Other than that I'm going to head into Victoria and track down a gaming store and see what the crack is there with X-Wing. If it's popular great, if not I plan on turning as many folks to the dark side as possible.
I play one day a week.
Leaves me wanting to play more, but -
It is better to be left wanting to play more than to get burnt out.
I've recently become addicted to this game. I usually manage to get a game at my weekly war gaming club, which is good but would like to play more. I need to get myself a gaming table sorted and try and arrange weekend games I think.
It is better to be left wanting to play more than to get burnt out.
That is very true
Well sadly I mostly play once a week. But not even that is a sure thing.
I have one local friend who plays with me, but he loses interest, because I mostly win. I really try to do predictable maneuvers more often than not, but the dice love me.
And once a week is not enough. :-(
I have just started attending game night again. Got three games in Monday night, but Tuesday after work I just had to play some more! So I got on Vassal and got a game in that cured the itch for at least 24 hours...I hope
What is this vassal thing I keep hearing about?
(don't want to change the topic of this thread, but I have to ask)its an online board game program (I have no idea how to use it though)
Vassal is fantastic if you can't get physical games in. Here is a really good tutorial put together by Mu0n, who has taken up the role as X-wing's Vassal Extraordinaire.
I highly recommend it. When Vassal first started, pick-up games were pretty hard to come by, but now you can find people looking for games in the evenings more often than not. And if everybody is in the middle of a game, you can sit in one of the rooms and watch a game, which can also be loads of fun.
EDIT: Also consider entering the Galactic Cup hosted by Mr. Froggies. It's going to be awesome! The opening rounds will be categorized by region, so you'll get to play people in or near your time zone. Click the link for more info. If creating an account at Team Covenant is stopping you, well, stop letting it stop you! They don't send out emails or ask for anything. It's just a simple blog, and your account allows the TO to contact you and keep track of your tournament points. So let's play some X-wing! Registration ends April 27th.
Edited by ParakitorGot 4 games in today/tonight (another game planned against my son in about an hours time) - organising for more games tomorrow day & night, and have more games planned on Friday night, and then of course, all day Saturday (well the 8hrs the shop is opened for anyways)!!!
By Sunday morning I'm hoping to have had at least 15+ games (all 100 points - all timed for 60 minutes each [getting ready for Regionals])
Cheers
I get to play about once or twice a week, its going to pick up this weekend since a lot of the people I play with are off this weekend for Good Friday. Still don't feel its enough as I'm addicted!
I only get to play on the TT like once or twice a month, I'm hoping to get more folks interested in x-wing in my local area, but finding the time to go to the LGS and try and build a group from the ground up may be more demanding time wise than I can afford.
However, I have had to forcibly remove myself from the PC and vassal where I get to play as often as I want, against some of the best. On vassal I have gotten in 18 games in the past 3 weeks.
Edited by JFunkI average 1.4 games a month. I should go to my FLGS, but I'm laaaaaaaazy.
The people I make come to my house and play seem to enjoy it though.
I honestly think (long set-up times ignored) I could play this 2-3 times a week happily.
My friend and I each asked our wives for the game for Christmas. We've played a few games since (6 or 7 I guess). I've spent way too much money on this game considering how little I actually have had the chance to play it. My pay cheques are gone before I get them because of preorders and the like. I have 2 boys aged 13 and 16 who I've played a couple of games against as well.
I haven't yet gotten to any tournaments as it's in the middle of the season, and I'm not sure if I can just jump in or not, plus I want to watch a few games from people outside of my normal group of friends to see how they handle rules and maneuvers etc. There are 3 or 4 stores here in Winnipeg that sell the mini's, but only 2 that I know of that run tournaments. I'm trying to get my LGS to start running tournaments, but I should probably be in a few first..
I sit at work and play with squad builders (when I SHOULD be working), I read about this game voraciously on the forums, comment when I should be doing something productive with my time, started a Facebook group for my buddies and I (Red Squadron), and generally I go to bed dreaming not of visions of sugarplums dancing in my head, but tiny little plastic miniatures dogfighting in a ballet of death.
Yeah. I have a problem. I don't play this game nearly enough.
My name is Ken, and I am an X-Wing Addict.
Edited by PapamamboI'm gonna partial quote a movie here. "... enough is never enough."
Wow. I'm surprised, but really I guess it is to be expected.
I really didn't think there would be as many people on here in the same situation or worse. I kind of thought most played every night or so give or take.
It is nice to know others are out there in the same boat.
The game is and isn't cheap if you want to seriously get into it, and that alone can be a con to some.
It's like I told my buddy who plays. He says he doesn't have the money, but yet can play poker every Friday.
I said to use my pieces and If there is a ship he likes then buy it. I mean if you can afford a Mary Jane habit, play poker every week, what an extra 15 dollars every couple of weeks to buy a ship.
I think since I've started playing I'm up to the 3-400 dollar range but while my wife and son was away I played the crap out of it, and never got tired, and I say I got my money worth
But with that said I see my play time decreasing way more than is like as one friend seems to be losing interest. He had a lot more when I first introduced him
I envy those of you who can just walk into a store and find someone to play with. That would be awesome, and I can relate to those who hardly get to play.
It's too bad that something as awesome as this couldn't become more main stream.
I've tried to get others into it, but they just shrug their shoulders, and some are huge star wars /board game fans, but they don't get into it cause of the money.
It truly is a epic game and I can't wait till my son is old enough to play, but that won't be for a few more years as he is only 3 lol.
Well let's just hope it is around for many years and even if it isn't as long as there is someone to play I'll pay when I can, even if it once a year, but dear god let's hope it never comes to that
Once a week which is not enough but better than nothing, although I am on a two week break for Easter as I have my daughter staying and she refuses to have a go!
Ya,sounds like my wife.
I said I'd do anything, and I mean ANYTHING if she was to play
But in her own defense she enjoys gaming like ps4 and Xbox so I'm lucky there
