How often do you play? Is it enough, or not enough?

By Krynn007, in X-Wing

Hello everyone, been awhile since I posted.

I've been wondering how often people on here get to play.

I've been found through withdrawals as its been over a week since I played.

I started mid January, and was playing quite a bit but recently my playtime has dwindled to almost nothing.

Since I've started I've managed to get every ship and 1 extra of, interceptor(4), bwing (2), xwing(2), bomber(2) awing (2)

First off, there is no gaming store in my area that can support the size of the game. I'm in Prince Edward Island, Canada for those who may know.

One store is like the size of a large closet.

There are 2 in my area and they only really seem to hold magic games, and even then it's pretty tight.

Second I manged to get 2 of my friends into it. One really got into it, and had almost as many ships as I do, and the other doesn't seem to be as interested in it as much Because he always loses. He says things like he doesn't know what the pilots do, but I always say use my ships, Google what you want to know . Hell he doesn't even have to buy cause I'm happy enough to use what I have, and if he likes it enough then he would know if he should buy,but again he just makes excuses like he doesn't know what certain ships do.

The lgs that I buy from says they sell a lot of them but, never seen it played, she said they either play in their homes or just buy for the looks for their desks at work.

While my wife was away me and my other friends were able to play almost every evening and on some weekends 4-5 games in one day.

Now that my wife and kids are home my play time had drastically reduced.

I wish there was a Leagueor something but I cant seem to find the people.

I've made a post on bgg, but the population here is small (bout 130k for whole province) so that section of the forums not very active.

I entered one tournament, and had to drive to another province (2 hour drive). There I met 2 others from my area and exchanged emails, but when I email them, get no reply.

It kind of saddens me because I freaking love this game and really wish I could play more. I be happy to play just one night a week if I could.

I wonder if I'm the only one out there who feels like this.

One friend said use face book, but I hate face book for many reasons so I refuse to go that route. Though I've been tempted.

This game is like crack to me and I'm beginning to have sever withdrawls. Lol.

Was thinking of getting in touch with a local community center and see how much it would cost for a few hours. If I could find the people I'd love to get a league going, but I have a feeling that may not going to happen.

I've tried to get the wife to play and even said is do anything she wants, but she still refuses.

She's a gamer, but not table top /boardgames

Sorry for long post as this is kind of a rant cause I feel frustrated, and any typos cause I'm using my mobile and auto correct sucks

I'm used to play one or two times per week. I'm trying to spread the game in my local store and I'm half the way to have some brilliant results.

I play once a week at my local game store and its not enough, I'm absolutely rabid for this game at the moment and my roommates are so adamant about not playing it... it suuucks.

I don't play nearly enough. This is partially due to the fact that my local store isn't brick-and-mortar, so we don't really have a place to congregate.

Ouch, that really sucks you guys.

I mean is nice to know that those of us who really love this game are not alone.

I wonder if there is something we can do to brain storm t get people together in our area some how.

One place I thought of is the local library.

I was surprised to see ours had some board games like Catan, and even game of thrones by ffg there.

I'd bring it to the local community college, if I trusted the student body with not breaking my shite.
Of course, I can't go to a library for it, as I tend to shout " Behold! The power of the HORDE ! " on occasion. (I play Swarm).

We had a game night at our workplace one weekend in January. Someone asked for me to bring in XWing one night so he could try it. It's now a weekly thing, and I'll call that good enough.

We've started making our own squads instead of letting me make a single interesting squad matchup. Squads that win advance to the next week. It makes for some nice variety and I get to see how different squads fight.

Once a week I think is good for me, but I'd be happier playing 2 full games, on after the other, instead of just one.

That's some cool ideas.

Unfortunately though I'm a plumber and most I work with are either rednecks or just aren't interested.

There is one guy who I got into it but I think he is usually busy with his wife

I was thinking of talking to the store owner and maybe see if she can spread the word around, and then find a place to be able to house everyone.

That is the only con to these type of game I can think of is the play area is kind is big

Don't know if I'd try the college in my area as I don't trust people I don't know to handle them.

I'd rather find people who already know how to play.

I look forward to November with they do the comic con in the area as they have a huge boardgames area and this is what I'll probably be doing, but that is a long ways away

Certainly in the "not nearly enough" camp here. It's a matter of getting interested parties' schedules to line up juuuuuuuust right.

Never enough.

I live less than a mile from my FLGS, but I am literally the only real X-wing player in that community. I'm lucky to get one or two games a month, though it has improved lately. I'm constantly demonstrating for "wet behind the ears" rookies, but few are ready and/or willing to invest, so I rarely get to game with people at my level. The few prospects are either infrequent visitors, not interested in the competitive elements of the game (which is fine by me, I'm all for Fly Casual), or are so competitive that their ego doesn't allow them to accept any explanation for their defeat beyond "my dice were on fire." Much like the younger me, they doesn't take criticism well, so trying to explain that they lost because I outflew them is pretty moot.

Traveling to other venues isn't feasible, so I plug along, grabbing a game when I can. Vassal is a no go, as I am too technologically UNsavvy to get it to work right on my computer.

What is this vassal thing I keep hearing about?

(don't want to change the topic of this thread, but I have to ask)

Not. E. Nuff...

I don't understand. What is this "enough" thing?

its an online board game program (I have no idea how to use it though)

Not enough because there are no stores close to me thta have events. Trying to look for local players though.

I'm blessed to have a roommate who is also obsessed with this game. We play 4-5 times a week. On the weekends I can also usually get in 2-3 games with some other friends in the area

I could probably still play more

Never enough games to be played.

Our local group has only just agreed to make it official at our LGS. We now have WnX (Wednesday Night X-Wing). But that won't be enough for me, I know it. I try to get games each and every day, if possible. I play all day Saturdays only to come home after 8hrs of gaming to look through forums, watch vids, build lists, pour over cards and combo's... It's a drug, and it's got ahold of me pretty badly.

I love it!

Cheers

As a fellow Canadian, living in the middle of nowhere Manitoba, I feel your pain. Store tournaments are hours away and local interest is low.

A few pick up games a month, and 3-4 tournament games. Nowhere near enough, but playing more might harm my relationship.

Enough is never enough.

About two games a month with friends and once every so often with my kiddo. I would love to play more but there just isn't time. Forums help.

Once a week here. Not enough!

Normally it's once a week, which is not enough. I'm trying to go other stores to play on their x-wing night but interestingly enough they're all scheduled on the same night of the week.

I decided to implement someone's conversion rules into the Edge of the Empire system so I'll be playing X-wing a lot more often. We used them today and had a blast (my PC's nearly died they had 1 shield and 1 hull left). They took out 4 TIE Fighters.

Everyone jokes at our LGS that every night is "X Wing Night". But typically we have X Wing going Monday (unofficial) Thursday (big night), and Friday (official). SprollyG has the sickest custom play board, it's good times. Still could play more, would do Vassal but I'm pretty much a Luddite.
