New FAQ and Tournament rules are up.

By hothie, in X-Wing

So, is there a banned list ATM? Are imperial aces legal for games using the official tourney rules now?

For competitive play, only the TIE Advanced is banned.

Just kidding. I don't see any "banned list" anywhere. I would think they have to publicize that, and they would only do it if there is a major release in the middle of the next round of tournaments. For example, if Wave 4 is miraculously released before the end of Regionals (or even if it isn't there will be promo copies of the expansions out there from the Imdaar event) they will ban them temporarily I think.

From the Tournament Rules

All Star Wars: X-Wing™ Miniatures Game components are legal for sanctioned play unless they are marked with the epic icon (ships with the epic icon ( ) next to the card title on the Ship card can be fielded only in Epic Play), or temporarily banned from tournament play (such as when a product is released in the midst of a tournament season).

So Aces should not be allowed in any remaining store championships.

The FAQ is back up. They updated it to version 2.0.1, updated today (April 15). The one that was up earlier was version 2.0, updated April 7, heh.

[edit] I'm going through both of them. On Page 4, they changed the heading "Overlapping in-line ships" to "Overlapping inline ships." They took out the hyphen.

On Page 7, they changed Colonel Jendon. His text is red now. It used to say: "If Colonel Jendon assigns a blue target lock token to a ship that is already maintaining its maximum number of target locks, that ship must discard one of its previously-held target locks." Now it says: "Colonel Jendon may assign 1 of his blue target lock tokens to a ship that does not have the target lock action listed in its action bar." That's ... completely different.

On Page 8, they introduced a spelling error. Now "acquiring" in the first paragraph of Fire-Control System is misspelled "acquring."

On Page 10, they bumped "per round" from the bottom of the left column to the top of the right column. As a professional paginator, I think it looks awful — those two words are basically widows. It looks like they did it to make the column lengths a little more even.

...aaaaand I believe that's it.

Looks like Jendon's entry changed completely.

Edit: That's the only update I can find.

I'm going to try Jendon's updated ability the first chance I get. Seems like an excellent utility boost.

Seems like FFG has listened to us on a few issues

Oh, the sad, sad irony.

A bit more detail than that might help me understand what exactly the sad part is.

In case anyone missed what I said on the previous page, here are all the changes I could find to the FAQ from version 2.0 to version 2.0.1:

How is this a boost? He may now only pass locks to TIE FIghters, Interceptors and Phantoms.

Instead of adding ST-321 and WE and passing locks out so bombers for example may attack locked and focused.

Uhm, no - it doesn't say he can ONLY assign it to ships without the target lock icon, just that he can. That's not exclusive.

But that bit you quoted there is what is causing the confusion. They provide an example of an occasion when something will be temporarily banned, but then don't actually say that it is banned. They also say this in the document

In North America, products are legal upon their release.

Actually, I can't find the reference to a banned list in the tournament document any more. Does someone remember where it is/was?

The new wording was completely replaced in the update about half an hour before you posted that. There is no updated ability any more, it works just like it always did.

It doesn't say that he may only do that; I believe this FAQ entry exists to answer the question "can he pass a blue TL token to a ship that could not normally perform a TL action itself".

Edit: omg ninja

No longer being constrained to range 1 means you can position ships in more varied positions and don't have to worry about flying in formation with him. Say a bomber needs to make a red maneuver to get in a firing arc, but would put him out of Jendon's R1. Where previously, Jendon wouldn't be able to do anything, how he can give the bomber a target lock and let the bomber continue firing ordnance.

Page 4, right column under "Legal Products", first paragraph.

IMHO, the "middle of a tournament season" is an example of when/why something might be placed on the banned list, but there is still and actual ban list (or should be, anyway).

Ahhh. Misinterpretation on my side, thanks all for setting me straight!

I just refreshed the FAQ just to be sure, but there's still a change in Jendon's ability noted.

Wait, what?? Where are you getting this from? There's nothing that even hints at this.

I think you may be badly misreading the FAQ. The text in Jendon's entry is a clarification, NOT a completely new game text.

Is it just me, or did Stealth Device get a little better?

Page 4, right column under "Legal Products", first paragraph.

No, I thought I remembered another part that specifically mentioned a list of stuff that was temporarily banned. Maybe its the paint fumes.

It is? Blar, darn. That still just leaves his ability mediocre at best.

No, it's always been that way.

Is it just me, or did Stealth Device get a little better?

How so?

Is it just me, or did Stealth Device get a little better?

It's just you. The FAQ clarifies that bombs, splash damage or crashing yourself into an asteroid are no reason to shout "We're being attaaaaacked!".
