New FAQ and Tournament rules are up.

By hothie, in X-Wing

Do these new tournament rules take effect immediately, i.e. active for a Store Championship this weekend (but not for last weekend)? I didn't see any text specifying either way. (But I'm still mentally asleep and I haven't finished my coffee.) I assume they take immediate effect.

Also, where is the banned list for the current Store Championships? Just making sure that Imperial Aces isn't suddenly available for the remainder of the Store Championships.

Also also, +1 for better rules wording.

I think it means the whole restriction about having a blue target lock is out.

So do I. And that's the reason for my first reaction: It should be in the errata section.

After that, I realized implications for the weapons engineer.

Hopefully the next FAQ will address this.

Geo - there are still Store Championships going on? I thought those were all done?

I think it is interesting that they gave the Swarm such a big boost in a mirror match. Guess it's a good thing that all those counters are coming, since partial wins won't keep Swarms out of the top tables anymore.

That page spoils who the other named B-Wing pilot is in Rebel Aces. =)

This image's name:

SWX13_4980_NeraDantels_MattBradbury_web.

...is SWX13_4980_NeraDantels_MattBradbury_web.png. Matt Bradbury is one of FFG's artists. SWX13 is the product code for ... well, the Lambda Shuttle, so it must be a typo, as the B-Wing is SWX14. But who is Nera Dantels, you ask? A Star Wars character who flew with Dagger Squadron!

And the name "Nera" seems to match up with what we can see of the PS5 pilot in this picture from the Rebel Aces announcement post:

This is good news. Wish the 12 point win was around for the Store Championship then I would have had 3 full wins and could have played for the title.

Jendon's utility is improved.

Before, if the destination ship had a lock already, Jendon couldn't use his ability. Now a ship with a Weapons Engineer and one lock can take one from Jendon as a second, and a ship that already has one can dump it to take the new one from Jendon.

Subtle improvements all around, but definitely improvements. And certainly it should be errata, but that's honestly nothing new. I'm actually more sympathetic on this than I normally would, because there's no way to fit that much text on Jendon's card, and I can't come up with any more concise wording.

We know the name. We know PS. We know she gets an EPT. Now we only need to figure out her ability and points cost.

Now a ship with a Weapons Engineer and one lock can take one from Jendon as a second...

I don't think it can. Because

  1. that contradicts the pilot ability about not having a TL and
  2. it does not match the condition the FAQ mentions which is maintaining the maximum number of TLs.

Hrm. Yeah, you're right. I read too much into that.

<shrug> Ah well. Honestly, it's not like anyone used Jendon anyway :D

There are 3-4 other things I think could use extra clarity, but only one seems really problematic to me. It's still a very big improvement over past efforts.

There's at least one more coming up this Saturday at Game Kastle in Santa Clara, CA.

Custom setup templates no longer allowed in the tournament rules.

I know that was an issue with a couple people here a while ago.

Very good change. It was an idiotic ruling to begin with.

So are we not allowed to use the range ruler that I won in the Store Championship?

It is from FFG themselves.

well being they were NOT legal for all the others, it would be FFGs call. I would guess the store should contact FFG about it and make sure the ruling.

I mean at FFGs own store championship they were selling the Aces up front and you could not play them in the back.

There was a ruling a while back where they decided to allow templated cutouts that would let you set your ships precisely in specific spots. It was rather silly, and they've come to their senses on it, thankfully. Acrylic and third-party templates and rulers are fine.

Oh, ok. Now I understand. Thanks.

FAQ got taken down for some reason? Not accessible as of 3:30 pm EST. Keep getting error 404. :(

So, is there a banned list ATM? Are imperial aces legal for games using the official tourney rules now?

If there is, I haven't found it. That would seem to make Aces legal.

Maybe they're feverishly retyping the thing based on the first critiques here in the topic.

For competitive play, only the TIE Advanced is banned.

Just kidding. I don't see any "banned list" anywhere. I would think they have to publicize that, and they would only do it if there is a major release in the middle of the next round of tournaments. For example, if Wave 4 is miraculously released before the end of Regionals (or even if it isn't there will be promo copies of the expansions out there from the Imdaar event) they will ban them temporarily I think.

And now we get to start all over again, looking for minor differences! Good times!
