Ship storage

By Popn618, in X-Wing

I'm looking for advice on how to store my ships and pieces. I have been keeping everything in its box but my wife is starting to notice how many boxes I've collected.

Is there any good but slightly tasteful storage options out there? Getting another toolbox might raise equal suspicions.

Thanks!

I moved my wife's Spode fine bone china out of the display cabinet, into cardboard boxes and into the loft. I then used the space to display my ships. Friends think they look great, but I've been living the life of a single man ever since. Don't follow my example.

Battle foam solution

I have a tackle box. Works great, relatively cheap.

Everything came in one case from Plano model 732. I added a few Rebel and Imperial decals to the top. I had to modify nothing to make stuff fit. I used just the lids from Ultra Pro 100 count deck boxes to hold my cards and made dividers for my small cards with comic back boards. I still have enought room in this one for all my wave 4 and Rebel Aces on pre-order. The case only cost $40 at Wal-Mart.

BTW I travel almost an hour 1 way every weekend to play...I have not had a single one break or have scratched paint!

Am I the only one who wants to hear more of this story?

$30 for storage for 35 ships vs. $40 for storage for 65 ships currently and still enough room for the 27 other ships on order. Both have room for all the extra bits. For me I can't justify, and this is after having 4 2500 point+ W40K armies and 1 3000 point+ WFB army all with Army Transport cases, paying $30 for foam and another $40+ for a case to put them in and have to do that twice just to hold what all I have. These ships are extremely durable. Always remember the more money you spend on what you keep them in the less money you have to buy stuff to put in them. $140 for all my stuff as is.....that is 14 small ships....or 7 large ships from MM or CSI!

Me being cheap bought a couple of in certs from a hardware store and use a laptop bag my work was throwing away.

You arent supposed to,let your wife see the boxes! Cmon I slip my postman a tip to leave the parcels in the bushes outside so I can retrieve them later. But an alternative way to keep the supply lines open is to trick her into playing and convince her she needs a fleet of her own.

Any local craft store (the larger chains) will carry some decent options. Plus, you'll probably be the only guy in there.

My 732 came with different trays. My larger trays will only fit smaller ships. The 2 small trays have cutouts big enough for the Falcon and I'm relegated to storing my Firespray and Shuttle up top. Did you buy different trays?

I really love these. Everything seems to fit in here perfectly, and the removable containers are great for the tokens. So far I've been able to fit 29 ships and there is still room for a few more. :-)

Battle foam sword bag with the pluck foam load out.

Im not a fan of the KR stuff, you should look up some YouTube reviews.

If you go for the pluck foam, as per my suggestion, cut up the clam packaging like what Bhunter46 did, very handy for the odd shaped ships with fragile parts like the X and B-wings.

Battlefoam PACK 432 with custom cut trays for the rule books, ships and cards and a Bass Pro Shop Utility Box for dice, templates and tokens.

iam using the same storaging boxes like u do where we see the tie fighters and firesprays i even uses cotton to make sure that they cant move in the cases so nothing gets broken and such

I had picked up that tackle box the 732 from plano. Its nice, as I had the "same" cases that came with it, same number, diffferent mold. I didn't feel it would fit my needs, just returned it today and got a plano softside that holds 4 of those 1750 cases, that should allow for the next wave and then some. As I am currently at 2 full cases. If I buy one more ship its overflow time.

I had some fun with a little cheapo box from the dollar store and some foam core!

I can store 16 small base ships, all on their stands with ship tokens and 2 ID tokens already set up. Makes setup a lot faster :D

Also looks pretty cool with the space background if I dare say so myself! (not very apparent in the phone pics...)

I'm going to have to find a different solution soon as I recently maxed out it's storage with Imperial Aces...

Still usefull to have around if I only bring a specific list to a tourney or a game night!

@Klutz - I like your storage. It seems great for your fleet. But don't you still have to take the ships off the bases to put the proper cardboard insert on it?

I use a similar system to BahnCalamari, but I have the deeper one that is empty on the bottom. I put 3 layer of pluck foam on the right of the bottom. On the top shelf, the left column is a bin for my Damage Deck, and then individual cardboard boxes made out of poster board for my Rebel dials, next column is evades, TL (rubber banded together), focus, column 3 is stress, shields, and pegs with the large base pegs in a little baggie so they're easy to find. The 4th column top box is a misc box containing a baggie of stress tokens, seismic charges + proton bombs rubberbanded together, and then ion tokens floating free in the bottom of the bin, then # tokens (rubber banded together in sets of 3) and finally dice. The last column has an oversized bin which holds ~40 bases, which is currently everything I have, but soon I'll have to stop carrying them all. As you The full width tray has the maneuver dials, asteroids, and a poster board box for my rebel cardboard inserts.

The bottom has the 3 trays of pluck foam, come W4 I'll have to redo the rebel one, but I should be fine for containing all of W4 stuff. The black thing in the top right is a side loading card binder with all of my upgrade cards, the cardboard to the left of it is the imp cardboard bases (can you tell I don't play imps that often?). On the left side, the red box contains all of my pilot cards, and the store champ box contains everything I need to play the SWLCG (dark+light deck + tokens... I did have my playmat on the top next to the range ruler, but took it out). Above that are the large bases + cardboard inserts, and the proximity mines. I also have a little baggie of all the scenario tokens just in case. And then you see the imp dials just sitting on top of all of that. Imp Aces made those cardboard boxes slightly too small, so I improvised a bit, and I'll hold off remaking them until W4 hits. I also have the rule book, the large ship inserts, and the tourney rules and FAQ tucked in on the left of all of the card boxes.

Well, yes. But only if I need to change pilot!

If I know I'm going to a LGS for a couple games after work I'll probably do my squad building the night before and get my ships ready. Then, it's just a matter of pulling them and the cards out of the box!

And even if I don't prepare ahead of time, I often play with the same pilots for a while, trying out different combos. These days I know one of the X-Wings is Wedge, and another is probably Biggs. I've basically always got Howlrunner setup as well.

OCD confession: Each ship is setup with the ID tokens that came with that expansion.
