anyone here know the name of the dragon flight path system and if ffg is making it?

By KILODEN, in X-Wing

I heard there was a dragon flight path system in the works. Just checking if anyone knows anything

I believe it is a Dungeons and Dragons thing. Not sure of name or whose making but I did see a D&D and some cool looking dragon models.

Will try to get a picture or link.

EDIT: Attack Wing Dungeons and Dragons by WizKids.

It's Wizkids, not FFG, that's making D&D Attack Wing.

Yup Wizkids is making D&D "How to Train Your Dragon" Attack Wing......I'm sure it will be as boring to play at Star Trek Attack Wing.

Am I the only one who would like to see dragons in X-Wing?

Not in space battle. But imagine a blue board, or a different coloured sky, with clouds made from cotton wool, perhaps dyed to a suitable colour.

X-Wing Dragon Slayers.

I'd rather see dragons burning noxious space threads from the sky.

I CHOOSE YOU BLUE-EYES WHITE KRAYT DRAGON.....NOW PREFORM PHOTON SNITCH BLAST!

Dragon miniatures? Cool.

Flight path based dragon miniatures board game? Even cooler.

WizKids making it? Bummer... I was excited too...

That's why I've asked you guys if FF makes X-wing compatible products. Star Wars (other eras), Warhammer, Warcraft and Serenity units would be wonderful. I would buy all of them... lol

I even bought some Attack Wing: Star Trek ships... but unfortunately it was not the same quality as FF products.

Yup....did you know they actually said that they took stock of the old Star Trek clicks game....had workers remove the ships from the clicks bases and put them on the AW bases to make the starting stock for the game. Wizkids is a horrible company that really needs to go away.

I think that FF should reboot Wings of War with modern jets. The games base rules were where X-Wing came from. Just add the X-Wing movement dials and upgrade cards and BOOM. You have a game that aviation fans would play and collect. As far as a fantasy based game FF couldn't do a Warhammer game because they would be making a miniature game competing with a miniature company. That is why Diskwar is basically WFB without minis. Although the rumors are that FF is going to be getting the rights to all of GW's specialtiy games. GW is hurting bad for money and are trying to sell off everything but W40K, WFB, and the LotR/Hobbit tabletop games. So FF might start making miniature games for Blood Bowl, Necromunda, Space Hulk, Battlefleet Gothic, as well as the other specialty games. So we can hold out hope to a fantasy game that plays like X-Wing.

As long as I can get a dragon that breaths ninjas, that ride dragons, that breath ninjas, that ride dragons, that...oh, you get it...

I've actually bought most of the Attack Wing ships released so far. I just replace the minis with the old Star Trek Micro Machines and its a much better game.

I'd rather see dragons burning noxious space threads from the sky.

Stop making me agree with you!

The specialty games didn't really make the kind of money that their business model needed and most were actually pet projects for their game designers at the time. Its actually seriously doubtful that FFG would be able to make money of them either since most of the original designers have moved on to other things plus I doubt GW will be giving up the rights to their sculpts.

I can see FFG taking Blood Bowl, as an example, making the game better. Then making pre-assembled pre-painted starter teams that can be added to with expansions and it will sell. It would happen with all those if FFG is the company that buys all the rights to those games....which it is a know fact that GW is trying to sell off.

Totally agree. But I think they should keep X-wing Miniature scale (1:270). It would be awsome to have those. I would buy those too... lol

From now on, whenever I fly a three amigos list I'm going to refer to the ships as Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion.

True. I'm just going off their misadventures with Dust. The considerations of a miniature game are very very different than that of a board or card game and their core competency isn't really miniatures.

X-wing was a lucky break all things considered. The market for skirmish level games is pretty much saturated atm with the advent of Kickstarter. I agree that Bloodbowl would be a good starting point but it would probably have to involve a total rehash of the game system which would be further investment. Otherwise the old guard players will just go - "Why should we have to pay for something we've been playing for free for decades?"

And THAT is the problem that all the specialty games have atm for whoever buys them.

OMG, that would be such exquisite torture. I would have to buy everything, and would never be able to convince any of my friends to play.

What?! A well-run, customer-loving company like GW is in financial straits? Surely, you jest.

Although the rumors are that FF is going to be getting the rights to all of GW's specialtiy games. Blood bowl using something similar to the flight path system might be very very interesting, I can see a lot of possibility in that.

A friend and I thought they should do a car wars-esque flight path game of automobile combat. Could get a lot more creative with the obstacles and terrain and such and is a genre that is fairly under developed right now.

I have my doubts that GW's financial situation is quite as bad as folks on the internet would have us think. That being said, I would love to see FFG pickup the rights to some of GW's properties like Gothic and Necromunda. In the case of Gothic though, I wouldn't want to see the property shoe-horned into a flight-path system like X-Wing's. Contrary to the beliefs of certain other manufacturers, capital ships have absolutely no business flitting around the play area like star fighters.

Edit: If the ships moved on a system more in the vein of the CR-90 and Rebel Transport, I would be ok with it.

That is where GW is at today. On Sept 30th the stock was at 823.50, that a drop of 286 points or 34% if you prefer. So just over a half year they closed most of the international HQ's and stores as a result in the sudden drop in stock. I'm not sure what caused the drop but signs point to a mass exodus away from the product from a frustrated fan base. Even here you don't have to look long in these forums to find x-GW fans. This does not mean the company is dead but rather needs some new ideas and direction to keep the rest of the investors from jumping ship. If the have another sharp fall like the recent one it could mean the end.
