FFG's Hints as to next wave

By Edrahil135, in X-Wing

So a popular theory on the forums is that FFG puts small hints in their releases as to what they're releasing in the next wave. Ex: A TIE Bomber (w3) on the Homing Missile (w2), The YT-1300 (w2) on Swarm Tactics (w1), references to an advanced starfighter (TIE Defender, w4) in the Imp Aces (w3.5).

So, looking at the TIE Defender release, we see the Predator card. The Predator card has, in the background, the Providence -Class Carrier/Destroyer (courtesy of Wookiepedia: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Providence-class_carrier/destroyer ), as seen in Ep III.

Thoughts on seeing Pre- Galactic Civil War ships in wave 5? I know there's a huge wave 5 thread that I didn't wade through, so apologies if i'm rehashing stuff here.

Also, I'd like to note that there's a lot of things I'd like to see from the Galactic Civil War still. Skipray Blastboats, Preybirds, Star Vipers, and a couple of the other YT Variants. Especially the Skipray.

Scale.... <_<

But seriously, the standard Providence class is 1088 meters long and it doesn't make sense with the current time period of the ships already released. To be true to scale, it would have to be 7 times longer than the Tantive IV coming out. Maybe its a hint to a Clone War era expansion?

Honestly I think the Providence -class and the Yevetha D-type fighter--neither of which, IMO, are ever likely to appear in this game--are both additional nails in the coffin of this theory.

I don't think we can call them nails in the coffin. The theory says some of the art hints at future ships. That doesn't preclude their usage in art. I don't buy the theory, but I can see the Type D being used.

It is a popular theory . If it had any resemblance to reality, we'd already have miniatures of ISD, Cloud City and both Death Stars.

was there anything in the wave 3 stuff that hinted at the wave 4 stuff?

The theory says that there is ONE ship revealed or hinted at

The way I always interpreted was that one of the ships shown tends to appear. Doesn't mean every little detail in the card. So far it has been pretty consistent. Cept maybe this last wave, I didn't remember seeing anything but I'll look again

So far FFG has released pretty much all movie stuff. Movie stuff is very common in EU. FFG does not make a fair few of the pictures themselves, they're ones Lucasfilm owns. ST-321 is a ROTJ Ralph McQuarrie concept art, Moldy Crow is from a sourcebook. Marksmanship is the cover of X-wing: The Bacta War. Maarek Steele is a cropped ANH picture.

These things are in the pictures because they were already in the pictures. The in house ones (Royal Guard pilot, the box picture that's used for Wedge and Academy Pilot) don't.

Still, in that case Predator's in-house art would mean we're about to get Providence carriers and Star Destroyers.

Predators art is not in house, it was from the Essential Guide To Warfare or the Essential Atlas. It has been around for a couple years.

They should make this wave about the heavy hitters. TIE Interdictors and K-Wings...

More TIE and more -Wing ? Can't anyone create more variety?

I'm waiting for the Assault Gunboat. That's different :D

Can someone tell me where Wave 4 appeared in any Wave 3 art? I think this is a silly, unsubstantiated rumor that keeps popping up simply because up until now, artwork depicts all the popular ships first (that, of course, will come out eventually) before EU craft appear.

The phantom was in every wave three cards' art, it was just cloaked.

The Providence would be 4 meters long at scale, or 17 feet, it would look good next to the Start Destroyer!

I think the EPT card Outmaneuver has the YT-2400 in it...

Has this theory been verified in any way by the appearance in art of a ship where it was not stunningly obvious that it would be included in the game?

Come on, people... "Ooooooh, look! Homing Missile PROVES that we're going to see a TIE Bomber!" Uhm... well. Wow. No way we could have guessed that one of 4 Imperial fighters to appear on screen would make it into the game. Stunning powers of deduction there, Sherlock :P

At the point when we see some of the fringier elements from the art - like the D-type Vorpal mentions - MAYBE we can start to think there's something intentional going on here. But what we have so far is a bunch of sighting of ships which any 5-year-old who watched the movies could tell you would be in the game, combined with a complete LACK of sightings of unexpected inclusions like the Moldy Crow or TIE Phantom.

Well...

I know its about hints... but i also saw some ppl are already heading towards the "new" 3 episodes.

I hope this will NOT happen... common... there are so many more ships in the originals.

And I kinda fear, cause these ships would be timely to far apart, that it would end like with "Magic TG" and the rules state.. well you cant play with wave 1 - 4 against wave 5 -7 ships.. blablab..

Which at one point would make the "old" ships obsolete and no one plays them anymore....

Anyhow.. here are some samples I found... (and no i dont give a **** about rebels...)

soo beautiful.

But I imagine there will be many expansions based on the new films. Its fairly obvious that its a goal. I do hope we see some clone wars fighters tho.

Heh. I still like that TIE Interdictor.

"I've got four missile pods! WHO HERE WANTS SOME IMPERIAL JUSTICE!?"

X-Wings had two tubes to launch proton torpedoes, too.

Would be epic if some system for shooting multiple missiles was introduced. ... But it won't

Star Vipers would be cool, and would open up options for the generally scoffed-at 3rd faction, ie Firesprays, ORSs, HWKs and other non-fleet ships. In essence, the ships and rules are already in place to field the 'wretched fleet of scum and villainy' without officially launching a 3rd faction
