Lambda Win FINALLY!

By hooperjaws, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Not that anyone else on the planet is very interested in this, but hello everyone. Last night I finally beat that rebel scum Wedge! With a Lambda!

I have been trying to win with the Lambda for a few weeks now and I managed two wins against my buddy (hes been playing since the start and has installed this xwing addiction in me these last two months). Nice to finally win with the Lambda and end a long losing streak. Two wins in one night too.

By the way, the Lambda had advanced sensors on it..

:-)

Congrats dude. Finally overcoming a Foe, and your past struggles with 1 particular ship, is a huge feat. Each step leads along the path... the path to true power... with the Dark Side.

Congrats.

Congrats!! Not trying to steal your thunder, and hopefully you will find comfort and joy in knowing that a mate of mine won todays Season 1 2014 X-Wing GNK tournament with a combo of Omicron (w/Vader) and 3 Interceptors. He tore me apart (Carnox, Turr and Cowal) and he went undefeated through 3 Swiss rounds. Though 1 of the wins was by a mere 4 points margin, but it's still a win :-)

Nice. What else were you running?

I beat Wedge with by Buzz-saw shuttle backed by Boba yesterday. Always great to kill Wedge....

What is buzz-saw shuttle?

I had heavy cannon on it, and advanced sensors.

Played him on his lonesome at the off, and did lots of "sensor-action zero-move" followed by green 1 moves to slow-play him into the action. This "kinda" worked, I got the long-range cannon shot into the "fight area", while his buddies were scrapping (Howrunner and four acadamy ties).

I think wedge would have died on turn three but I keep forgetting to use Howlrunner re-rolls. DURRR

Got him a few turns after though. It was fairly epic after that with noone sure who was out on top, but the last throws were a badly wonded academy and howlrunner vs turret kyle crow thingie.

Howlrunner was the last man standing (ahem I mean women!!). Most enjoyable game Ive had thus far.

Im gonna play Vader, and his two wingmen from the death star (isnt that backstabber and mauler?) next game, Ive not played vader properly yet. Turrents kinda ruin it the dogfight a bit don't they..

Buzzsaw Shuttles have Gunner, Fire Control System, and Engine Upgrade. It's a fun combo. Lets you do some great sniping.

Thats 32 points that is. 1 more point and you have a firespray.

Im guessing engine upgrade helps a lot? I used advanced sensors to mitigate the poor dial a bit but I can see that engine upgrade would help (although it costs actions).

I have won with the Shuttle, but never with it kitted out. Only as support, Yorr and Kagi to be more specific. As far as my shuttles ever doing critical shooting is a bust. Can't seem to get more then 3 shots off in a game with it, the dial is the worst, rather fly a Hawk.

Certainly its not cheap but the Attack - miss - gain TL - Attack again with TL is pretty potent, better even than Han with Gunner. Of course you have to get your shuttle pointed in the right direction which is tricky and takes practice. Lots of stalling and having an APtie to block can help.

Ok, so the Buzzsaw shuttle has the upgrades mentioned above:

Omicron Group Pilot + FCS + Gunner + Engine Upgrade

These three upgrades have an incredible amount of synergy. First, you have the shooting order of events:

1) Roll Attack

2) Gain Target Lock

3) If you missed Attack 1, Attack again

4) Spend target lock to reroll any number of dice

5) Gain Target Lock again

So, your first attack is going to average 1 hit, since you don't have target lock or focus. It's probably going to be evaded. Great. Now you get a second attack, with target lock. It also helps insulate you from bad dice on either side of the equation. Since the attack is quite potent, you don't have to worry about spending your action to improve your attack. This lets you use your action to boost. Boost, on a large base ship, means you move SUPER far. Give it a try. It turns the Lambda into a perfect flanking ship. Engage with the main force, while the albino space cow swoops around and catches them from behind.
