Campaign Idea

By RoBro, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

I thought of this campaign in a dream I had and I didnt know if it was good enough for elaberation.

The story is the acolytes our told to investigate a house where they beleive there is a leader to a heresy cult or something like that. They can be in a city first where they can find out more about this cult leader and buy stuff and crap like that. Well when they find the house on the outskirts of town they can investgate the place and snoop around. Maybe ill throw a demented dog in the backyard or something cool to keep my PC's interested. Well when they get into the house they find a man dead on the floor in a pool of blood. When they investigate it they find a wallet and ID that doesnt match his description. When they are standing over the body, Some official gaurds bust down the door and yell at them to get down. They here sirens and helicopters and its very frantic. What they do next is up to them.

Should I run this as a campaign

No offense mate, but this has been done hundreds of times before. The good old "But officer... I didn't know he was dead" hook.

Before you run it, try to think of:

A) Who would know your acolytes are acolytes

B) A reason that they'd frame him

C) Who this dead person is

D) Why the Acolytes couldn't just reveal they're working for the Inquisition, solving all problems (and, with proper background checks, this would clear everything up)

E) Whether or not you want to make it that the organization (cult or otherwise) that the Acolytes are investigating is tied up with a rogue Inquisitor. That's one of the few things that fills out all of the above (after all, an Inquisitor has the credential to "accidentally" change some background info if you get me).

even though this is a well used trope, it sounds like it would probably be a good fun campaign to play in. I say go for it. Obviously it needs elaborated upon, but its as good a starting point as any.

I would go as far as using the notorious Archmedes Noxt. A mutant of evil intent. The mutant is found in the Creature Anathema and in Noxts bio describes him as being a criminal of the Calixis Sector. Some possible motives could be that the dead person had owed Noxt some Throne. Noxt keeps on living by exacting flesh from his dead victims. I think you are on the right track when you mention that you want the Acolytes to stumble upon a dead body. This can be your hook for bringing the Acolytes together. Now that they are being blamed, the fun part of your campaign I think would be using skill tests and role play to escape from penal slams. Maybe a court hearing for the Acolytes. They are in fact "guilty until proven innocent." You could leave clues to suspect that Noxt is up to no good again. Reading the adventure seed in the Creatures Anathema under Archmedes Noxt, it talks about the Acolytes stumbling upon Noxts narcotic drug factory.

Mr. Adeptus, your posting abilities impress me lol. That said... you're absolutely right, Noxt would be a perfect villian for this kind of scenario. He'd be one of the few who'd know how to manipulate events so that the PCs can't just "Inquisition!" their way out and would be able to recongize Inquisitors on his tail and what not.
