A big thank you for bringing a game that we all love and enjoy

By BattlePriest, in X-Wing

With all the negativity going around and the hail of bullets the FFG team gets no matter what they do (from republicans, from Imperials, from neutrals..."), I would like to thank them for bringing us a game that we all love and enjoy.

I would like to have a thank you thread for:

*** A game that we love so much that we spend considerable time debating and "debating" over every aspect of the game. (a game we love so much that we care)

*** A game we love so much that we spend considerable time investing and playing it.

Despite what is going on, despite differences in opinions, I would say:

Thank you FFG for creating this game in the first place! And bringing enjoyment! Keep on the good work!

Thank you FFG for creating a game where:

  • the rules are quick to learn, even if not so quick to master.
  • the models are pre-assembled and painted, the painting looking very professional and not amateurish.
  • releasing said models in waves which are announced before the previous wave is even out, building excitement and helping us to save up.

Thank you BattlePriest for posting a jolly topic.

Thank you FFG for giving me another reason to fill up my shelves with more Star Wars goodies (as if the Lego sets didn't take up enough of the available space!) - and thank you to Mrs 0Dark for tolerating the above

A well thought out, simple to play, easy to set up expandable game that even my 10 yr old daughter enjoys - despite not being a Star Wars convert

Pre-painted - a luxury after spending my teens painting Space Marines and High Elves rather than maneuvering them on the field of battle

Expansions in waves - so I get to budget for all the new releases and then chew my nails, wondering if my FLGS will have the ships in stock

A reason to watch all the OT again - and then recreating the scenes on my dining table (topped by some black mounting card with stars dotted with a silver Sharpie) - who doesn't want to see the Falcon dive and spin between 2 Imp SDs with TIE fighters in pursuit over and over again!

I must toss in my thanks as well.

I don't have another game which can engender such a bond between its players. It always draws people in who share a love of Star Wars, miniatures gaming, or both, and when they play with me we all have a good time. Even losing feels good because it feels *fair*.

The fact that this is a Star Wars game also means it's something even little kids can get into. Wings of War is a good game (so I'm told), but World War II isn't something kids can relate to exactly. Star Wars, though? Kids take one look at the X-wing or TIE Fighter and immediately know which one is the good guys. They understand the oppressed Rebels trying to fight for freedom from the evil Empire.

The game system itself is also a great one, and is easy to understand. It's also easily customizable for the players. Novices can leave out the special rules and just concentrate on the maneuvers and stats. More advanced players can use the tokens and special rules.

Finally, a great feature of this wonderful game is that you can choose which ships you want for your fleet. Need one more Y-wing for a trio of ion boats? No problem, just look for the correct package on the shelf. None of that randomized nonsense that makes you spend money on stuff you don't need for that one thing that would complete your set.

Thank you FFG for a great game that has rules that are quick to grasp but also have layers to them that make for more tactical play.

I also can not express my joy in having models pre painted and pre assembled (not counting the attach to base). I love Warhammer and Warhammer 40k but it is a nightmare painting and assembling models. It is such a relief to have a great looking ship already painted and assembled that you can just take out and PLAY and not worry about the other expenses.

Cheers, ffg, for keeping our imaginations flowing, distracting us from the woes of life, for producing fabulous models, bringing together communities of people that would not otherwise communicate, for looking after your customers, for producing a wide range and variety of games, and for keeping your marketing fair, and informative, and building quality products. There are certain other games companies out there that could sure do to follow that which you do, Hope it keeps up and you dont end up following in their footsteps.learn from them. We are now in a wargaming and tabletop gaming boom with a lot of companies out there producing great games. Gaming is in its heyday.

Thanks FFG for a game that's gotten me out of the house! I'm a bit of a hermit. If I could telecommute, I think 'shut in' would be an appropriate title. Picking up X Wing has forced me to meet people. I've made friends, played at the local gamestore, had people over, gone to other's houses... My crippling depression/anxiety has been less crippling lately. You don't get all the credit, but your game has factored in significantly.

Thanks for giving me a reason to push myself socially!

As much fun as this game is (and it is the most fun game I have ever played) I think the people I meet when I go to OP events or organized gaming nights are even more fun.

Thank you for creating a game that:

- Stays true to Star Wars fluff, while maintaining game balance (particularly with controversial issues like named characters and ships with incredible reputations).

- Represents characters with powerful, entertaining, and fluff-related abilities, without overshadowing the everyday pilots.

- Lets us fly some of our favorite Star Wars ships!

- Has rules that are simple but clear, comprehensive, and intuitive.

- Has some very fine models and gaming accessories!

Thank you for creating a game that allows me to relive my childhood while satisfying my more "refined and advanced" adult tastes. :D

They understand the oppressed Rebels trying to fight for freedom from the evil Empire

I think you have things backwards here…

Anyways, thank you FFG for a game that all ages can enjoy, for a game that has allowed a gaming group of two to expand into a gaming group of 6 (soon to be 8–10 I hope)

Thank you for, despite all odds, creating a well-balanced game between factions, where no one has a terrible advantage.

Thank you for allowing my tactical mind to flourish and grow, and where I can help pass this on to others.

Thank you for all the Imperial ships (except the TIE Advanced) and all the Rebel ships (except the Falcon); for Squints, for Horton Salm, for Defenders and Phantoms, for the pilots of Rogue Squadron.

Finally, thank you for a game that will never grow old, that years later we can look back on and say: "it was a great ride; let's pull it back out again and play some more."

Thanks FFG

I've said it all before, so I'll simply CnP it into this thread....

Have played 40K since 1st Ed, WFB since 2nd Ed. Delved into other games such as Bloodbowl, Mordhiem, Gorka Morka, Necromunda (**** GW has alot of my money), Starship Troopers, not too mention the plethora of card games and board games. I purchased my first Core set of X-wing.... That has led to my playing of SW:LCG...

I sold everything, the whole kit an kaboodle. 40K gone, WFB gone, cards gone. My introduction to X-wing, and the card game, came at a time where my interest level in playing/painting/building/etc al. had waned. I had lost all drive to play/compete and the rules sets had gotten stale. Just the thought of picking up a paintbrush one more time, or having to put up with a rules lawyer over some obvious GW typo, was getting too much. I had burnt out.

But then the shining light that is X-wing illuminated my gaming future. Now I feel reborn, like I am sitting back in my fathers front garden under the pine tree with a paperclip and some knotted string, with Han and Luke climbing into a treetop village while Stormtroopers and Speederbikes move through the undergrowth that is the garden-bed. This game has given me back my early-teen years. Thank you FFG.

I now devote all my gaming time and money to X-Wing and the LCG.

Cheers
