Hooray! A Non-Negative post: Your best LGS experience(s).

By Hoosteen, in X-Wing

That's right! This post is NOT about:

Being upset that the (Rebel/Imperial) ship is (overcosted, undercosted, uneffective, overpowered, etc.).

or ,

Being upset at the people who are upset that the (Rebel/Imperial) ship is (overcosted, undercosted, uneffective, overpowered, etc.).

I never thought a "Rate-My-List" thread would be such a welcome relief.

SO! On to the "LGS Experience."

I have enjoyed playing board games of all kinds with friends/family for a long time now. But since the closest gaming store is about 70 miles away from me, I don't get a chance to mingle with other gamers very often.

I've always kinda thought, "The kinds of people who go to gaming shops to 'Battle it out' are a lot more competitive than I am, and therefore I wouldn't have much fun in that kind of setting."

But yesterday, I was able to visit that shop to buy a Tie Bomber and a B-Wing, and heard that they did a little "XWM get together" on Thursday nights. So, I figured, why not, and came back an hour later. I got to meet a few players, see other people's collections, and I really wished that I had mine with me. Super casual, friendly, and even my wife mentioned that she would feel comfortable playing a few matches. After finding out that they were going to have a tournament next month, I just may enter, for the fun of it... especially if I can convince a few of my friends I've gotten hooked.

So what about you guys?

It was a pleasure to meet you and your wife yesterday. I hope you get the opportunity to come back soon.

I was quite impressed with the turnout we had. We've only been having the X-Wing league going since January, and there have been days when it was just me and my nine-year old daughter. Yesterday we had four "regulars" and at least five others who are either learning or already playing.

My FLGs SC had Season 2-3 Tournament kits for extra prize support, very very awesome

So I'm a huge fan of my experiances at comics fusion in flemington, nj. Everything is awesome so it's hard to pick one experiance. The first night I came to play i was greeted well and instantly made friends with their casual night players. The player group is great and it's really comfortable to come and play even as a new player. Sean is the guy who runs things and he is super friendly and puts a lot of work into keeping his players happy. We have had big holiday bashes using custom rules for large ships and multiple players, we track the galactic struggle between imperials and rebels, and for the 1 year anniversary, Sean had small prize packs for everyone which was awesome of him.

And for Christmas the store got mini cupcakes from a local bakery and Santa was there.

I have played a number of miniature games at game stores, though I wouldn't call myself a heavy tournament player. I have never had as much fun in any organized gaming event as I do playing X-wing. Part of the issue is the Game is just a ton of fun. But I think we have to acknowledge that X-wing players are just a fun as the game we play.

I'm not sure why this is, perhaps the fact that the game is sooooo much cheaper than other mini games encourages a more relaxed gamer. Or perhaps the the importance on how well you fly your ships over what ships you bring results in less frustration when someone brings a list that your personal list is bad against.

What ever the reason, we are awsome.

I would have to say my first tournament. I had played 1 game of XW the week before, and went into the store to buy the core set. However, when I got there I learned there was a tournament in an hour. So one of the guys I kinda knew was really nice and let me borrow his Imperials while he was playing rebels. I had an extremely good time, had some very close games, and even managed to sneak into 2nd place :) .

Oh, and we won't talk about how I forgot to shuffle the damage cards from my core set before drawing. At least I know now that they package all 7 direct hits on the top of the deck.... <_<

Hey I'm a regular there and yeah Sean is a really really cool guy last week we celebrated our 1 year as a group and he gave out personalized swag, from all the sets, in addition to crunch the statistics on for everyone whos ever played one game with us. Cool guy as does alot for the group. (also cupcakes too)

Come join us for causal games and lots of laughs.

I

I really enjoy the atmosphere at Madness Games in Plano TX. They have a large, bright area with tables and even sell refreshments. My only wish: that they would get an liquor license. I'd like to have a brew or two while playing.

I gotta give kudo's here to Pegasus Gaming in Bundaberg QLD Australia, my LGS.

I'm somewhat of a gaming Enigma in my town. Been involved in some way in all the shops (barr 1) that have been in town since moving here nearly 20yrs ago. I can honestly say that the current LGS owner, Graham, easily ranks in my top 2 of the local hobby shop owners over the years. We have a great store locally now, better than we have had in the last 5 years at least. They have refreshments, snack foods, softdrinks, and every now and then something something 'homemade' (brownies, etc) from Graham's wife's (Michelle) kitchen!!

Enough room to host 30+ players every Friday night for FNM, and still able to house 8+ players for Warmahordes, as well as 6 guys playing L5R Roleplay, and STILL enough room for a couple of games of x-wing to happen. Saturdays = heaps of room, even when tournaments or leagues are happening, and Wednesday nights, again enough room to cover the 40K players + X-wing + SW:TCG/Netrunner/AGoT card games.

For a town of probably less than 50k people, Graham and Pegasus Gaming go above and beyond to make sure us hill-billies don't miss out on all the good stuff that you big-city folk get access too. I just wish more of the locals would appreciate what he does (or at the very least - show their appreciation).

Cheers
