The Hwk-290, reimagined

By Nyxen, in X-Wing

Good lord, everyone says the blaster turret is garbage.

Come on folks. Just use it on Kyle. You can't lose with that, since he literally poops out focus.

Like, he literally sweats it.

Kyle doesn't get more focus than anybody else. He can't afford to burn a focus on an attack before dice are rolled, he needs those to pass to his buddies and to use to make sure things hit. The Moldy Crow Card is too expensive and Recon specialist only lets him ise his ability while keeping a focus token. Kyle is the worst hwk for blaster turret. Not the best.

Kyle might not be the best option for the Blaster Turret, but he is the best option if you want to make it work. For 27 points you have a Focus factory. Literally. By the 3rd round you could have 6 focus tokens on him and not need to focus for a few rounds, passing them on to a Y-Wing with a blaster turret or another ship with torps/missiles and Deadeye.

Kyle as a focus factory is 31 points (or are you not including the turret?). He IS the best option to make it work, granted, but he's even better with an ion cannon. So why try to make it work?

Concentrate all firepower on that focus factory

If by round 3 Kyle has 6 tokens on him he hasn't been passing them around, thereby limiting the effectiveness of the ships around him. Why save those tokens? So you can cry more when he gets blasted out of existence?

6 tokens on him take at least three rounds to spend so you're into round 6 before he's empty, if all goes according to plan

Well its likely no one needs a focus the first round, so why would he pass one? Second round is debatable. Depends on how aggressive people are flying. 3rd round you should be engaging the enemy and he, having taken 3 straight focus actions, has 6 tokens piled up and will start passing them for that 3rd combat phase. He can pass them up to range 3, so his job now is avoiding opposing arcs and keep passing focus.

I'm not a tournament player. Never played in one, probably never will. So YMMV.

Too much cardboard there. Ion Cannon/Recons specialist and you're good all day long for ar less points.
