Target Lock

By johnny3078, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I am sure this has been answered before but can a ship that currently has a target lock chose to remove its target lock form a ship so that it can get a new target lock on another ship? Please site rules/FFG website/etc.

Page 9:

Target Lock tokens are only removed if the locking ship either acquires a target lock on a different ship or spends the target lock during the combat phase.

Since ships can normally have a single target lock at a given time, you lose the old one when you acquire a new one. But note that you can't discard it voluntarily. You must acquire a new one or use the old one.

Also:

Q: If a ship already has a lock on an enemy ship,
can the locking ship acquire a target lock
again on the same enemy ship in order to
trigger an effect (such as “Dutch” Vander)?
A: No.
Your new target lock must be on a different target. You can't re-acquire a target lock on your current locked target.
