The nicknames come from the Michael Stackpole x-wing books, or at least that's where I remember hearing them.

It'll end up massively similar to another ship.

I can assure you that FFG will ride this money train till the wheels come off!!! I have already budgeted an X-Wing Miniatures related financial hemorrhage for the next three years.
They've only got 1.5 years before VII brings them a load of new material. FFG's designers don't like making two ships that just weaker/more powerful versions of each other, exhibit A: their interesting take on the Defender: it isn't just an Interceptor on shield steroids with a couple of secondary weapon slots. Obscurity isn't an issue as long as they can design something new-ish with it, Exhibit B: the massively well-known TIE phantom (just an ancient game called Rebel Assault II and a cameo in the broken Empire at War expansion). The Avenger as a ship in its own right is unlikely. The best we can hope for is a very expensive title card that gives it an extra attack die or something.

Ah yeah i see how the Galaxies stuff can tie
in like that, im running on fumes from the old flight sims but also remember the Avenger was able to mount a tractor beam, which no other ship in that class could do like the phantom with cloaking. i guess im kind of hoping for something like that and another super cool Imperial model

So, can anyone give a reason how (or if the books explained them) and why the Imperials crafts got their nicknames?
And, are there any nicknames for the republic crafts? (might be harder because most of the books are written in republic perspective?)
One other thing, I read that someone stated that the Empire at War expansion (Forces of Corruption) is broken? how so? I'm curious.
