Asteroids? Initiative?

By Bohrdumb, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So my group of friends have been playing for a while now, but I've played two individual games against two different people, and the three of us all had slightly different interpretations of the rules, so I wanted to clarify something, or just tell me if I'm wrong.

Asteroids:

Touching one with your base (at the end of your move) means you lose your action, can't shoot, and roll for damage?

Moving causes your movement template to touch one, you lose your action, and roll for damage?

Initiative:

Whoever has initiative does everything first...asteroid places, ship placement (in ties), movement, and firing?

If you fly over an asteroid, but your movement template touches the asteroid, you roll for damage, but can shoot & do actions normally.

(at least thats how I am playing it)

Actually if your movement template crosses an asteroid token and the ship clears (i.e. the base does not end up overlapping the asteroid marker/token) then you skip action and then roll for damage. You can still shoot. (page 20 Moving into and Through Obstacles)

This all looks right to me.

Well, just to be clear, since the OP made the distinction in yellow...

Whoever has initiative does everything first...asteroid places, ship placement (in [PS] ties), movement (in PS ties), and firing (in PS ties).

Thanks for the replies everyone. Now to find a polite way to let my group know they've doing it wrong...

Remember, an obstacle causes you to skip your Perform Action step. If you're given an action later on by an ability such as Lando's, you can still do it.
