Solo Mono Challenge 5: Fords of Isen

By Scroll Lock, in The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game

Tactics:

Heroes: Beorn, Theoden, Merry (starting threat: 30)

game 1: loss - 250

game 2: loss - 250

game 3: win - 105

total: 605

Stories:

This deck shouldn't have lost twice. It's an awesome deck. But as things go, there are two things that tactics doesn't like - a pile up of locations (game 1) and rising threat (game 2). I mean, I so wanted to see locations during my first three playthroughs, and rarely got one. This time I was stuck with three in a row, thanks to Gandalf I even made it to stage 2, but my hand was still full of cards anf the time effect plus one Dunland Raider killed my whole party.

Game 2 was sadistic. Here is how it went:

turn 1 - Ill Tidings (surge), Old Hatreds (surge), Wild Men of Dunlands (surge), Dunland Tribesman

Thanks to the Tribesman my threat was already at 33 at the beginning of turn 2's quest phase.

turn 2 - Pillaging and Burning

Ok, my hand was full of cards (eight) at that point, so my threat goes up to 41. At least I was already on stage 2, so everything (like a superb result) was still possible.

turn 3 - Pillaging and Burning

Game. Over.

Total end result:

377 + 310 + 580 + 605 = 1872

Looks fun, busy right now, but might be able to participate in a future mono sphere contest. Which quest do you guys plan on doing next? What about Stewards Fear or Foundations of Stone?

Steward's Fear? Solo? Mono?

Are you crazy??????

I'm sure I could do it. At least with a few spheres.....

FoS would not show its potential solo. If The Dunland Trap won't be too brutal, then TDT. But we will see.

I'n my opinion, none of the quests show their full potential solo. All quests work best with 2-3 players. Solo is great, 2-3 players is better. But why would a quest have to be at its full potential solo to use it for this contest? I think FoS would be a great quest for this challenge.

SF has been desgined for multiplayer and they somehow forgot to adjust the balancing for solo mode. Most of the plot twists will destroy a solo deck, the game mechanics make it very difficult to handle both quest and combat with one single deck and then there is still the villain to defeat. IMO this scenario is a design desaster for solo play. I only play it with house rules like being able to choose the plot twist. Two handed it is fun, solo it's just frustrating.

Nobody participates on this FordsIsern challenge? So i will win sure ^^
