Rebel Transport: On the boat

By dvorm, in X-Wing

I can't believe we're two pages into this thread and no one has said, "The first transport is away!"

*Rebel crew cheers*

It'll be in the first stores June 13th. Mark this post down... I'm calling it right here, right now.

i agree, aces were on boat for 8 weeks

can i like this more than once?

If been wondering for a bit, but why can't they just make items tournament legal on release day? It seems a bit silly that you legally buy items for a game, but aren't allowed to legally play them on the game's tournaments.

Because they are being considerate to all players. By delaying making them tournament legal. They are giving everyone a chance to actually see the new cards in play. Instead of just letting someone getting blind sided at a tournament.

And yet at the same time it's rather inconsiderate to the players who went to buy the ships and cards on release day. As well as making things more of a headache for the tournament organisers. Not to mention it also prevents cards designed to fix flaws that popped up over the course of the game's life from actually doing what they were designed to do.

Bleh, don't really like it. *grumble grumble grumble*

You can still buy them on release day, you just can't have an unfair advantage in a tournament. This is not a new phenomenon in the gaming world.

Release day or "legal day" still hoses players unless they are really really on it. I would rather them be legal on "release date" (that would require FFG to get solid release dates however) than some other arbitrary day.

Having shown up for a major tournament (not this game) only to find out a new FAQ/rules set dropped the night before and was now legal for the event I was at was one of the worst tournament experiences of my life. The first round pairings went up and I saw I was immediately paired against a player who had the "new loophole" list ready and waiting. It was all I could do not to just forfeit so I wouldn't have to sit through the beating I knew was coming... guess which one of us took 1st place that day? Not me... I did win the rest of my matches for a top 8 finish but because it was suddenly "legal" most people were completely caught off guard.

What game was this? I know that in Magic the rules are updated and published well before they go into effect, and event organizers (i.e. small store owners) usually announce the new rules at every opportunity leading up to their release. It's unfortunate that you had to go through that, and I can't help but feel that the company is at fault.

Dnd minis...The Chainmail update x2. The game was on it's way out anyway... it might actually have been my last major tournament for that game, not because I didn't still play it; the game died.

Its on a slow boat from china.

Just double checked the severe weather forecasts websites for the Pacific (a holdover from my days working in the travel industry & cruise industry) and there's no major weather anywhere in the North Pacific right now. Only one storm off the north coast of Australia that looks happy where it is.

It just doesn't looks so happy for the North Coast of Queensland. It's going to make it fun when I drive up that way next week for a wedding.

Oh good, only six weeks of "is it here yet?" and joke threads. I can hardly wait.

Followed by "When will Transport be tournament legal" threads.

It seems the 'when is it tourney legal' started early this release :D

When does the Typhoon-season usually start there? Also I hope nothing big makes an apearance as Japan is starting up their nuclear reactors again...

Mutated seaworms could make for some nice spaceslugs... :D

The transport will never be tournament legal, not for the standard tournament anyway. It should only be legal in the Epic Format from what we know.

The new pilots however those will be tournament legal when they release a FAQ including them. Which considering that they seem to be waiting for the store championships to be over before they include Imperial Aces, they might hold off and include the Transport pilots as well.

Do we have a source on this? I've seen it mentioned, but I don't remember ever seeing anythign from FFG beyond the fact the other formats are designed for use of the Big Ships.

Do we have a source on this?

Here's a quote from the following page. It was from the first announcement for the two Huge ships.

While the Rebel transport is only legal in the game’s Cinematic Play and Epic tournament formats, the rest of the expansion is likely to make its impact upon the standard game with five different upgrade options, a new X-wing miniature, and four new X-wing pilots, including Jek Porkins and Rebel ace Wes Janson.

Thanks. Bit of a bummer given the point cost. I guess I can see it, but it'll hurt their sales some. Unless Epic Play takes over.(150 pt tournaments would make me happy.)

The X-Wing pilots that come with it will be tournament legal, as is the new X-Wing. So I think you'll see some of them sold just for the sake of the pilots, upgrades and crew.

The CR-90 will see less of that, and at that price fewer of them will be sold. But with such a great model and given what it offers I think they'll still sell a fair number of them. I at least hope they do, because if the CR-90 doesn't sell well, there's almost no chance of a Imperial Cap ship.

Unless Epic Play takes over.(150 pt tournaments would make me happy.)

I think you'll see Epic Tournaments running in tandem with the standard format tournament at most FFG events. The interesting question will be how many lists with CR-90's you'll see vs just 150+ points of Rebel ships.

I hope Epic Play works out. I'll be picking up a CR 90 for sure. I still want games where I can Tractor Beam ships all over the place. :P

Or 11 Tie Swarms.

Well without a cap ship of their own, I think that's going to be the main way to go imp side. Although at that price point Bombers and a Shuttle for support becomes a lot easier to put together.

Tie swarms may not like being rammed by the transports and cr-90s. Swarms may have a tougher time than you think. Especially since one of the best things about ties is that they are great blockers and that becomes death.getting range 1 shots will probably be hard to survive as a tie. I'm betting Rexler is the go to capital ship killer for the imperials. Those crits on that big body will hurt. The phantom would be tough on them too with all that evade and firepower against no evade. I really want to see the phantom pilots.

Interceptors are going to be in a but of trouble though. Interceptors have a tendency to gain stress like crazy, but stress is the last thing you want to have on a low-THP ships when you're anywhere near a transport.

I have both the cr 90 and the transport on one pre order. I wonder how far apart they will release and if I should split them up. Hate to pay shipping but don't want to wait too long for it either.
