Duty & Obligation

By Lancer999, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hey all...

My group is in EotE right now and I am sure that when the Final version of AoR arrives we would play adv. in that book as well. So here is the question...I read the update on how Duty & Obligation work with one being less is better and the other More is better, but here is the question...

For established PCs in the EotE universe (I guess it is the same universe) but they have obligation, how would they gain Duty for the next adventure?? Since they are not starting characters (10 Duty for a party of 5) then we wouldn't have 10, so how much Duty would we be getting for a new game w/ PCs who already have Obligation? Or is that a GM discretion question?

Thanks in adv.

The GM and party will have to discuss it, but since Duty resets when it hits 100, I would suggest letting each player select a Duty and simply have it start at 0.

What FangGrip said is pretty much the best way to handle it.

AoR presumes that the PCs have been part of the Rebel Alliance for at least a little while, enough to earn up some trust and maybe even undergo a mission or two before the campaign kicks off. PCs from an existing EotE campaign aren't going to have that in their backstory, and are going to have to prove themselves to the Alliance that they can generally be relied upon. They've got to prove to Alliance brass that they're not going to betray the Rebels at the drop of a hat.

After all, Han Solo wasn't handed a generalship when he showed up on Yavin IV, and Luke got his spot in the X-Wing due to the Rebels needing every pilot they could get at the time (plus having Leia put in a good word for him likely helped, especially after his simulator scores if you go by the novelization). Heck, Luke probably had a very low Duty rating (if any) prior to the Battle of Yavin, though his success there pretty much snagged a huge bonus which in turn probably fast-tracked him for command of a starfighter squadron (and again, having one of the key leaders vouching for you certainly helps).
