Cheapest Place in Canada to Buy X-Wing

By Azul, in X-Wing

Hey everyone, do any of you know what the cheapest place in Canada is to pick up X-Wing. I know a lot of sites (miniaturemarket, coolstuffinc, etc) in the US have prices that are discounted $5 - $10 per ship but then the shipping costs are so high that any savings you would make get immediately lost.

So, are there any places in Canada with a decent price on ships and shipping?

Meeplemart in Toronto is normally $11.95 for the small ships. The shop in downtown Toronto is in a new location and very nice. I believe the shipping is $9.95 flat rate across Canada, but I tend to pick things up when I'm in town.

I haven't researched the relative Canadian prices but I'd add The Cult of the New (http://www.thecultofthenew.com/) as another place you should check--we did a bulk buy of Imperial Aces from them and they really came through with a great price and superb customer service. Highly recommended.

Azul - where do you live? I find that there is such a discrepancy between different Game stores here in Winnipeg. The average seems to be around the $14.95 for small bases and $29.95 for Large Bases. Some stores however charge based on supply and demand, and are 2-3$ more expensive. A local Bookseller who also happens to stock the game and a few mini's hiked their prices up big time though. $49.99 for the core set and $37.99 for the Falcon. I had bought a Falcon from them a month or so back when they were selling them for around $33, as I had a gift card, so I think I got it for around $14 with taxes..

If you want to do mail-order, go here;

It's based in Vancouver, i believe, and if you live in the area, you can do a store pickup. They do free shipping on orders over $150, so if you're buying by the Wave, or just starting out, your bulk purchases will be well met there. Typically I get an order from them within a week of processing.

If you live in the Toronto area, head over to http://www.401games.ca/

Another Toronto area option is http://www.heavysupport.com/

Like Starlit Citadel, they'll do free Canadian Shipping over $150.

I don't know about x-wing but I get emails about cheap drugs from Canada, does that count?

There is variation in the prices in Toronto too. Best I've seen for the small expansions is $11.95 and $22.95 for the large ones at 401 games. I haven't had any shipped, tho, I get them over the counter the old fashioned way.

Heavy Support sells them at the same rate I believe. It's $1 more expensive at Starlit. I typically get my ships from 401 or Heavy, depending on which is more convenient for me to drive to when I'm out and about and needing to pick up the next group of ships.

Usually the sell-through being what it is has me buying a mix from both.

German Board Games

How about picking up a pre-loved collection via bartertown or ebay?

www.germangames.com is flat $10 shipping for your order, and the prices are $11-12. If you want to do a bulk buy, you could not go wrong with German Games.

Thanks for the ideas. I like to support my LGS, but saving money is a big thing too.

I'd also recommend http://www.boardgames.ca it's the online ordering site for Mission: Fun & Games in St. Albert, AB (almost but not quite a part of Edmonton). Prices are competitive - $15 for most small ships, wave 4 was going for $16 last I checked. Drawback is no free shipping, so it depends how far away you are how good a deal it'd be. Amazon.ca carries x-wing as well, free shipping if you order enough, but I can't speak to their available supplies.

In my experience, the cheapest places are still outside of Canada. They run about $10 or 11 US per ship, meaning $11-12 CDN. You stand a good chance of avoiding sales tax, and a good chance of avoiding customs charges if the package is labelled correctly. Even with shipping you're getting a better deal than ordering from a Canadian retailer.

Unfortunately, I'm going to selfishly hold back from linking any of the 2-3 places I order from, because I need to put together an order in the next couple of days, and I don't want anything I'm after to go out of stock. But I'll gladly bump the thread in a day or two with the info, if anyone wants it.

Poor Americans the only first world country denied universal health care, do you know in France the government actually hires people to help new mothers, but hey at least you have that horribly bloated military :)

Canada? What state is that located in?

It was in 1814. And to be fair, the previous year they burned down our parliament..

Did not know the parliment fact.

Hope the OP can get his minis, odd how its so hard to ship them there.

Playtime Games is also really reasonable from an acquisition perspective; if you're in the National Capital Region, you can also do pickup: http://playtimegamesonline.com/

If you are in the National Capital Region I would recommend Boutique FDB in Gatineau.

1) its a gorgeous store. Upstairs with 2 walls made up of 90% windows. OMG sunlight!

2) they have a fidelity card which gets you 10% off all purchases in the store, and their prices are the lowest in the NCR area.

3) there is a vibrant community that plays there and they support the community

4) you buy the item and physically have it in your hand, not having to wait for Canada Post to screw up your delivery

5) if they dont have something, they can get it in a week. Their distributor is awesome.

6) its above an artisan cheese shop that sells craft beer. WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT?
