Duel!

By Narsil0420, in Player community

Hello fellow LOTR:LCGers!

Over on the Isengard Discussion page, I made an idle challenge to fellow Card Lord PsychoRocka that there wasn't room for two Elrohir avatars on the forums.

Now that challenge has been met and we shall commence our duel at dawn on the burning hillsides of Amon Din.

We've decided to play two-handed decks and we shall play three games, their number being three and the best scores obtained during these three games shall be compared and will determine the victor!

The victor will be the true Son of Elrond and the loser will be condemned to finding a new avatar (and hanging their head in shame).

I will not let this upstart of only 74 posts take what is rightfully mine! I will be victorious!

We wanted to post this so we could let everyone know the outcome of this duel and to inspire others to pose similar challenges to others (for grievances real or imagined) and record the outcomes here!
Just because it's a cooperative game doesn't mean we can't get pleasure out of publicly humiliating others! Let the duels commence!

The loser should have to make this their avatar...

You see, this is the problem with elves...is this a he or a she elf? ;)

Hello All

As you can see Narsil and I shall duel!!
The winner shall be declared the true son of Elrond and the loser must change their Avatar.
As much as I am new to this game; in comparison to Narsil at least, I have used Elrohir and Elladan in every game I play since getting the two packs you get them in and feel like I am the true Son of Elrond for this reason alone.

In fact! Narsil actually asked if I would like us to have to use Elrohir and Elladan in the duel (that is what he first proposed, way back when) which I believe is a given! Whats more who WOULDN'T want to use them regardless of stipulations? He who is not truly the Son of Elrond or deserving of such an awesome avatar, that's who! :P

This duel is gonna be just like Fingolfin and Melkor. Narsil may have challenged me but it will only be his own undoing, even if he severely wounds me or puts up a fantastic fight he is gonna get CRUSHED.

I'm very excited for this for some reason... Even though it's not MY avatar changing... :)

Anyway, what quests will you be playing?

As I hinted at above, we'll be playing Encounter at Amon Din. We're both playing two handed so it's not as easy as the scenario can be solo. In some senses it's a blank slate to let the power of our decks take center stage.

Of course I always intended to use the brothers, what an insulting implication ;)

PsychoRocka, maybe we should agree on a time to simultaneously post our scores, say Saturday night?

To further prove my Elvenhood, I will be listening to my custom Spotify playlist Elf Friend as I play!

Holy crap, I think I just lost my first game! I was about to win on turn TWO! I only needed to kill Ghulat and had enough attack to do it when his shadow card raised one teams threat to 50!

I tried looking it up but if the player who controls Alcaron leaves play you lose automatically right? If not I might be able to still win. I'll pause my game til I find the answer...

Just finished game one! So happy with my first try, awesome starting hands!

Finished on the fourth round (3x10 so 30)

had a combined threat of 62 (32 + 30 so 62)

only had one damage counter and no dead heroes (so 1)

7 Victory Points (so -7)

Overall Score of: 86!

I had 17 Rescued villagers to 9 Dead villagers

Used my whole tactics team + alcarnon to one hit Ghulat the turn after I engaged him, cleared what I could with Asfaloth and just used everyone to quest on the last round (except a westfold outrider) and got the progress tokens to 16 on stage 2, just!

Second game, nowhere near as good a result..

Finished on the fifth round (4x10 so 40)

had a combined threat of 62 (31 + 41 so 72)

only had two damage counters and no dead heroes (so 2)

6 Victory Points (so -6)

Overall Score of: 108

A Craven Eagle came out at the start of the game smashing one players hand and a second came out on the second turn making me sacrifice an enjoy of pelargir. Battled my way through decently and feinted Ghulat for one turn, then defended and killed him the next. A Burnt Homestead as a shadow effect on the last round raised one players threat by 6 to 41 =\

Played well and kept pace (left the eagles in staging for a turn or two though...) but just had bad draws and hands that weren't quite as good, that first game was heaps lucky with encounter draws and sneak attack gandalf killing an enemy in staging before even questing helped clearing the first stage on round 1 so much.

Don't think I'll beat my best score so far in game three but here goes!

Also my apologies Narsil for posting scores before an agreed time but I will probably be busy for the rest of the weekend so need to do my three games tonight

Finished the third and last game!
Finished on round four (3x10 so 30)

had a combined threat of 62 (32 + 30 so 64)

had five damage counters and no dead heroes (so 5)

7 Victory Points (so -6)

Overall Score of: 93!

I had 9 Rescued villagers to 8 Dead villagers! Almost lost!

86 is the score to beat my friend!

I want video with play by play ;)

Well done Sir! I'm nervous now!

Well, I started my second game, and what's the first card out in setup? Craven Eagle. I discard the best cards of my hand including 4 willpower, ****.

Here's my setup:

1st player: Eowyn/Frodo/Elladan

2nd player: Grima/Elrohir/Aragorn

The first game I had Light of Valinor, Celebrian's Stone, and Steward of Gondor on Elrohir the first turn. Second game? nothing. I played a Forest Snare and Sneak Attack Gandalf for questing and to kill that Eagle. I didn't get any of my doomed cards or fancy tricks so I'm not thinking this game is going to go so well.

However, I got very luck with two locations the first draw. Thanks to Gandalf I have enough willpower to get all but 2 progress off the quest card. Next round I play Silvan Refuge and NOTHING else between both players. Again, I got very lucky with only 1 location and the treachery which makes you discard to raise the total threat. That gets me enough progress to move onto the next stage. Ghulat comes out with no damage on Dead Villagers so I let him go undefended and get 2 shadow damage on Grima. Aragorn, Elrohir and Alcaron (that traitor...) put four damage on him.

Turn 3, Gandalf gets played to knock out Ghulat and there's a clear path to the finish line. I quest with everyone plus Children of the Sea(!?!) on Silvan Refugee for 30 willpower. Two enemies come out for a total of 7 threats, 4 progress on the active location and 19 out of 15 progress on the last stage. VICTORY!!!

This was a lesson to me in humility and to persevere because even games you don't think are starting off that well can turn out in your favor.

Finished on the 3rd round (20 points)

Threat 61 (33+28)

Damage 2

Victory Points 5

Overall Score:

Well fought PsychoRocka! This was a really fun experience and got me excited about playing games that I haven't been in a while. I would say that you should pick Elladan as your avatar so we can be brothers but I think someone out there already is using it... TIME FOR ANOTHER DUEL!

Damnit!!! I should have insisted we use the old scoring system.. I would have won 56 to 58... =(

I should not be a sore loser however so well done good sir! Fantastic duel and a well deserved victory, I shall soon decide what to change my avatar to!

The duel was exciting and gave the games a sense of purpose and urgency, we should do it again soon!

Old scoring system next time though! =P

Thanks guys. This was fun to follow.
