Trying to get back into X-Wing

By Esmer, in X-Wing

Hi all.

When x wing first came out I bought a few ships and had some fun but it never really took off at my flgs due to the slow release of ships in the UK. (Star trek attack wing is played a lot more in the store now)....anyways I'm looking to start playing again but don't want to invest to heavily until I know we can get a regular play group set up.

With that in mind could I build a competitive 100 point rebel list with the following ships or will I be owned terribly

1 core set

1 x-wing

2 y-wings

1 a-wing

1 tie fighter

1 advanced tie

Any help would be appreciated :)

I'd suggest another x-wing and a b wing.

2 x and 2 Ywings isnt terrible, You could do a garvin dutch combo aswell.

What ships do you want in the list or pref?

you should have some solid options on the Rebel side, Imps, are a little lite. as you have 4 ships for them, which is not ideal. I would say Rebels, you have some options, like run a Green Awing with Push the Limit, like 2 xwings, and a Y wing with ion? should be close on points, but I would play with the XXYY or XXYA combos and see what you like. If you want to play Imps, you should get more ships

you could do all 5 of your ships, rookie rookie gold gold green PTL.

As already mentioned you can do pretty well with on the Rebel side but on the Imperial side you will have a hard (Impossible?) time just fielding a 100 point squadron. You may not have the big number of X's and any YTs or B-Wings but you can make due with that you have in a few different ways.

If you're looking to pick up a new ship or two, get yourself a B-wing.

As for what you have now, you can make plenty of great YYXX lists:

Gold+Ion Turret x2

Rookie

Wedge

This leaves you with 4 points to upgrade. You could put an engine upgrade on Wedge or give him R2-D2 for example.

That with R2D2 on Wedge is what I took to the Kessel Run Tournament and won. :)

Edit: This little bit of nostalgia is my 700th post.

An Ioned Tie is a dead Tie. No doubt. The Y-wings are tanks to boot. I think it is a solid list. Glad to hear it someone else is also using it with success.

If you want to build good squads, you have a nice base for your rebels. The purchase of two B Wings and a YT-1300 would give you a bunch of nice options with which to play with.

If you want to build the gaming group, an additional core set and a Slave-1 would give you a reasonable Imperial force to go against your XXYY, and extra dice and templates to help you in teaching some new players how to play the game.

Wow thanks for all the responses! I think I'll go with the xx configuration just now and look to pick up 2 b wings and a falcon next!

Biggs

Wedge
2x Gold squadron and Ion turret

Or

Rookie

Luke with R2-D2 and determination.

2x Gold squadron and Ion turret

Or

Garven

Wedge

Dutch with Ion
Prototype pilot

I like the top one best, and all are decent lists that I can see winning.
