A few quick rules questions for a new player

By Sovoth, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi, we played our first proper game last night and we had a few rules queries that a quick scan of the rules didnt resolve.

1. Can you attack another ship if it is in your arc of sight but another ships base lies between you and the target? Sometimes the whole base obscured the target or sometimes the range ruler passes over the base of another ship.

2. Linked to the above, if your ship is in base contact with an enemy ship you can't attack that ship, but can you shoot through/past it to another enemy ship?

3. If you re-roll your dice from a special ability (such as Han Solo's) can you then use another action or ability to roll them again (like focus?). I couldn't see anything about re-rolls.

4. If you target lock a ship as your action. Can you use different actions in subsequent turns whilst still maintaining the original target lock? Or whilst you are using the target lock do you not make any other actions?

These are probably daft questions to the experienced players, but we're still getting to grips with the game.

Cheers

Nothing blocks line of sight in thus fame so yes, you can shoot through other ships, including ones you are touching. Asteroids can obscure a target, giving them a bonus agility die on defense, but that is all. I believe the FAQ has more detailed/accurate explanation of how asteroids obscure things.

You may only ever reroll a given die once. That is stated in the rules somewhere. However, focus foes not reroll any dice. Spending a focus token just directly modifies one or more dice from one result to another result. Target locks DO reroll dice though, but no did can be rerolled more than once.

Once you have the target lock it does not interfere with subsequent actions.

You may only ever reroll a given die once. That is stated in the rules somewhere.

It's on page 12 at the bottom of the left side in the "Modifying Dice Results" box:

"Important: When a die is changed
or rerolled, ignore its original result
and apply only the new result. This
new result may be modified by other
effects; however, a die that has
already been rerolled cannot be
rerolled again during this attack."

Forgottenlore is right on everything else too.

1. Yes. Unless something else prevents it you can attack ANY enemy ship within your firing arc and range except one that is touching you.

2. See point 1.

3. Can only re-roll a die once. May apply all other modifications, such as Focus, as allowed.

4. Once you TL a ships that remains until you TL on something else, spend the TL, or one of you dies.
