So PotM was my first real tourney, cause of course the 3-6 player weekend games at our local shop aren't exactly the same competitive level, lol.
I had a great time, it was nice to get to put some faces to some of the names on this board. Met some really cool people, and got a refreshing experience that the pros are all down to earth cool guys.
My first match i got to go against Jon Herr, who as you all know by now was playing as himself. Being my first time in a real tourney i sort of "lost track" of a few things, made a few minor play mistakes, and decked myself as they announced 5 minutes left...In hindsight i should of scooped 20 mins prior and tried to squeeze out a game 2. Jon Herr's deck was a beast, and his R: is painful to sit across from, lol. I traded Jon for his card, we handshaked, and proceeded to round 2.
Round 2...i fought against Darthnoir from these forums playing Zhai Daiyou. Oh, did i mention we travelled out there together (he is our local scout) and were the only 2 ppl from california...lol. I took him out, we laughed about the pairing, and moved to round 3.
Round 3...I am bad with names, i believe round 3 is when i played Nakoruru being piloted by a guy i played a few times throught the weekend. Great guy and he had a Rera deck he was working on that will get pretty beefy when he gets the cards we discussed for it
Long story short, time against me again, as time is called we pull a 1-1 draw.
Round 4-5...I can't remember one of thse rounds...forgive me lol. The other round I played Mignon who refreshingly DIDN'T sandbag into Chunners. Game was long and drawn out, he would of decked himself but, again being my first tournament and me not really knowing the rules, i mistakenly "passed" instead of forming with olcadans, causing the game to be an instant draw. We are both needing a win to have any chance of top 8ing, so we do a roll off and i get lucky with the dice. 3-1-1
Round 6...After playing the Canadian Nats champ my first round and although losing, having a great learning experience; i check the pairups for round 6 and see i am up against Olexa. lawls. Andrew was an extremely cool guy and it was a blast to play with him. He was running turn 2 60m60 hilde, and game 1 didn't take long. Game 2 i am able to pull out my tricks before he gets his and we are now 1-1. Game 3 between olcadans, manifest, and a few others tricks he is able to blast me in the face for a hundred damage before i am able to do anything. I gladly accept my loss and we both part with a handshake.
I had a great time, learned a lot of things, and am ready for next weeks regionals
It also was cool to go to my first tourney and get to come back with a signed copy of the 2 players who beat me, lol.
Also gotta send a saikyo shoutout to brian and a big thanks to taking us to BK. And don't even try to put any of that white lettuce on my sandwich.
Hope to see some of you maybe at regionals, or at other events in the future.
Would love to elaborate more, but i already took 2 days off and gotta get some work done
Gotta end it though with a big thank you to Steve and the rest of the FFG crew, especially eric for the ride to Jimmy Johns.
My only complaint, SF4 on xbox controllers? Blasphemy! lol
