UK availability

By Jonzo, in X-Wing

Sorry if this has been posted already but can anyone point me in the direction of any news to say when the more recent waves will be shipped to the UK?

Everywhere there are massive amounts of Advanced, TIE, X-Wing, Falcons and Slave 1, and nothing else. Haven't seen a B-Wing or A-Wing for about 6 months, much less Interceptors.

I could buy direct from the States of course, but it's working out at over £30/$50 for an individual ship, it's a good product, but that's a bit steep!

Anyone heard any news?

At the top of the FFG website's home page is a button marked "Upcoming"

Select "miniatures" in the second dialogue box

This lists the status of models, most of the ones you asked about are listed as "at the printer"

When this changes to "in stores now" add 3-4 weeks for UK retailers to get stock.

Thanks!

(First for answering the question, and second for pointing out that the answer was right there in front of me under my nose in a way that's way more polite than I've come to expect from the internet!)

:)

There's a few retailers that still have stock. bpgames.co.uk in Essex still have B-Wings for instance...

So they do! Cheers!

Anyone know anywhere that has Interceptors?

My basement?

Wave 3 are due any week now - Shuttle, B-wing, Bomber and HWK.

Odds are Esdivium have it by now and are just slow and useless like always.

I've had good experience from tritexgames when it comes to preordering, though they seem to get things in stock a week after my local gaming store.

Darksphere is my local, but they dont put pre orders up until they know how many they are getting, so wont be for awhile.

Having also worked in dealing with international shipments of goods, it's also possible (although not saying it is, just that it could be) that the shipments get held up in Customs for weeks or more at a time. There's little that's more frustating than waiting for your pallets to clear inspections when you know all the paperwork is in order, but just that someone hasn't checked off the appropriate box on a form to make the pallets move again.

One thought that we use in Canada when we need to order from Europe... Do any of you have a big enough local community of gamers that you could pool your orders and do one bigger one from overseas? That way, the shipping costs will get averaged out a bit better than each of you trying to do it invidiually.

Also being in the UK, I emailed Esdevium about this literally yesterday. They got back to me within about 10 minutes and had this to say for themselves.

" Expect wave 2 & 3 ships to be available from stockists again in the next 4-6 weeks, wave 3 probably before wave 2."

That obviously doesn't really line up with the above, and I think it's probably fairly ambitious, which sucks. I'm obviously very happy to be proven wrong though. I'm sorely tempted to order some stuff from the States, because as a relatively new player I have almost nothing, but don't really want to pay shipping, and don't really want to take money away from the local guys.

Tis a dilemma.

A warning note for UK players, if ordering from the States you have to pay import duty(2%) and VAT(20%) on the cost of the items bought, the shipping cost and import duty. In addition the shipping company will charge you a fee for paying these additional costs! A couple of years ago Parcel Force charged me £13.45 for a tax bill of £13.25!

Hi. I'm fairly new to X-Wing and these forums (but been lurking for a few weeks).

UK availability is pretty dire ATM for some expansions. I've been after an Interceptor too, but can't find any except a few overpriced ones on eBay. At the moment I'd even settle for buying the pilot cards ( Soontir Fel in particular) as I have Imp Aces, but not had much luck there either.

I found Chaos Cards ( http://www.chaoscards.co.uk ) to be pretty good for a lot of X-Wing stuff, but they don't have any Interceptors either :(

Niall makes a good point about importing from outside the EU. You can get stiffed for a fair bit of import tax, depending on the value of the package.

TIE/sa for you, Ser: http://www.bpgames.co.uk/star-wars/star-wars-miniatures-tie-bomber/prod_277.html

I've placed a couple of orders with Beer & Pizza games myself - had really good service and fast delivery. They were selling Bombers and HWKs at £9.99 each a few weeks ago, much cheaper than I've seen them elsewhere so I assume they had a lot of stock to shift.

The only thing I'd say is theycharge about £5 for delivery, which is a bit high for individual models, but I picked up around half a dozen and a Lambda, so it spread the cost around a bit!

The costis a little high, but it is a stellar next-day delivery service! :)

Keep an eye on BMF Bits on ebay - they were selling some at the weekend, so it'll be interesting to see if they list any more stock

Do you work for them?

I wish I had seen the bombers at £9.99 i'd have taken 2.

Haha, no I don't!

I was very impressed that I got three bombers with next day for £35, given that there were none about and if they were they would have been £15 each.

BP are one of my three go-to places, they also have B-Wings instock which is a rarity!

On a slightly related note does anyone have experience of a company called board game extras?

They have interceptors on preorder at 11.75 each including delivery and bombers at 12 in the same state.

I'm emailing them to ask the expectation on the arrival of these but they talk about mid april...

The main reason i ask however is their pricing of the rebel transport - pre-order for 37.50 including postage but talks about pre-order for the summer... any thoughts on how likely that is?

I don't know where you ordered one ship for £30, I ordered up two A-Wings from Miniature Market last Saturday, they shipped yesterday and I expect them in the next 10-14 days going by previous orders and the total, including postage came to £21.95.

As for tax -

If you order or send purchased goods other than alcohol, tobacco, perfume and toilet water from a country outside the EU then you:

  • don't have to pay Excise Duty
  • may have to pay Customs Duty on goods with a value that exceeds £135
  • will have to pay import VAT on goods with a value that exceeds £15

Note that on all goods from outside the EU, Customs Duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is £9 or under.

One of my last orders was stopped, the first got through, and I payed £8 VAT and a handling charge of £8, this was roughly the same as my son, whose second order also was stopped. There was about five ships or so in each order so even the one that was stopped saved me around £4, the other £20.

I do not expect the two A-Wings to be touched.

I have a sneaking suspicion, rightly or wrongly, but the coincidence with both my son and I leads me to believe they simply did not bother with the first box, but having ordered up the second box so soon after the first, it flagged up on their computer(?), ergo we were hit.

At the end of the day you pay your money and take your chances, but US stores usually have everything, and in dollars what we pay in pounds.

Niall, I'm curious as similar things happen in Canada when ordering from the USA. However, it is often the case that the global courier companies - mostly UPS as that's the most common one it seems for US vendors to use, but also FedEx and Purolator - that they add on this entirely internal "Customs Brokerage Service Fee" and it can be up to $50CAD. However, when I have it shipped by the US Postal service and then finished by Canada Post (the same as Royal Mail), there's typically no service fee at all or just a $5 fee if they charge anything.

I'm with you there Slugrage, it is the 'handling fee' which enrages me, I have already paid the postage and I didn't ask anyone to 'handle' it. And mine are delivered by Royal Mail, so I have to go to the office and pay before they will give me the parcel.

And I own a **** Post Office!

I ordered a box of aces from miniature market, they cost me £26 including postage and arrived in 14 days. Good enough for government work.

Terrorping: that seems expensive... Aces less than that on Amazon.co.uk ...

for Germany, ordering the aces from amazon.com was actually cheaper (<30 EUR) than ordering from UK even including tax and shipping and with 9 days of delivery times also relatively fast.

In Germany we have the frustrating tendency to translate everything and getting the English version is harder.
