Tales of Woe

By majikforce, in X-Wing

Ever had that terrible game where nothing went right or some crazy scenario played out. Well lets share stories of horrible luck, dice, strategy, or lists you have had playin ghtis awesome game. I think it will be very therapeutic. We get a chance to vent these stories and feel justified in our pain while others laugh at our misery and misfortune. Good 'ol fun!!

Mine starts with "Ever one shot an A-wing with a Tie Fighter?"

That's right Howlrunner killed my undamaged Prototype pilot with one roll of the dice. The game started great for me. I had a couple of prototype Awings and Tycho. A hawk with Kyle. An Xwing and Chewie. It was gonna be awesome. I had been struggling with flying and crashing all over the place but this was the game I redeemed myself. The tie swarm was coming at me I flew the prototype right into the middle of the swarm and disrupted all the flight paths. Only HowlRunner was in front of me at range 1 with no focus. My plan was to koigran next turn and be in position to assault missile that dastardly swarm!! "There was only one way Howlrunner could kill me, go ahead Kyle give that focus to the xwing who will be taking multiple defense rolls" i said. Howl runner rolls hit, hit, crit. I start sweating, i feel confident though and roll focus, focus , focus. Gulp! **** kyle why did you listen to me. two shields gone. my trembling hand flips over that nasty crit card to reveal my worst nightmare. 2 points of Total utter death!! Thats it my game is over in round 2! I'm never playing again. I did rally though, to win not that game or the next 3 but that 4th game was so sweet.

One time my wife was able to one-shot My Soontir Fel + Stealth device with a Green Squadron A-Wing...... at range 3........ through a rock. I thought I was going to cry. She rolled a hit and a crit, and I rolled all blanks. Crit was, of course, Direct Hit.

My Soontir Fel + stealth + PTL vs. chewie, an Xwing, and a bwing. Soon tie shoots first, kills chewie. Avoids shots. 2nd round kills off the Xwing...yah. Spends 3 rounds whittling down the bwing befor my opponent just gives up after not having even shot at Fel in 5 rounds.

Opponent says: "we gotta swap squads".

My Bwing 1 shots his Fel at range 3 through a rock first round of engagement. My opponent walks away.

Not my tale of woe but still a good one.

I don't really have any horrors as of yet to tell.

Most of my games have been real casual. Im lucky to have local people that aren't all cut throat.

I really dont care too much whether I win or not cause I'm having too much fun flying into asteroids and satellites and turbo lasers and ships and any other **** thing you can put on the board !!.

So yes ! I ABSOLUTELY SUCK !!

BUT , I could care less. Its just a game and my mother gave me enough smooches and hugs when I was little to overcome my pilot deficiency.

One of my first games, 100 points a side of course, and the asteroids killed more than 100 points of ships.

Turns out we got the rules for asteroids wrong though and they were doing more damage than they should have.

100 point game against a family member. My squad was:

Garven Dreis+Proton Torpedoes

Dutch Vander+Ion Cannon Turret

2x Rookie Pilot

Exactly 100pts

First round of shooting, focus+target lock on Garven, fire off Protons. It was a terrible miss after the target rolled to evade. Dutch ended up dying a quick, painful death by the second round of shooting, before he could even pass a target lock to another ship. There goes my synergy strategy.

I think most players can relate to this:

I think it was the second game I played with my wife. 1 core set, so a simple X-Wing vs 2 Ties.

Both of my ships were on opposite sides, and I both my dials were set for sharp turns toward the middle.

I was gonna surround that X-Wing, and give the Rebels something to remember me by!!

Turned over the dials, and flew both Ties off the map.

Yep. :|

A few of the top of my head:

Had a roark hwk get killed after it had shields down, and another ship rolled 2 crits that were both direct hits.

Self killed Wedge after I purposely went over a asteroid with him when he had 2 hull left. I rolled a direct hit crit for damage.

Fired an assault missile with a focus to go with it at biggs and only got 2 out of 4 hits, while he rolled 2 evades.

Had Dark Curse get one-shot at Range 3 with a Stealth Device through a rock.

Last week, an A-Wing managed to stick a crit on Stealth Soontir with a focus at range 3. Fel lived, but I still curse that shot.

Guy at the next table had it worse. He managed to kill one of his own ships by crashing it repeatedly against the same asteroid. Nobody else shot him. I have no idea how that was even possible.

Heh, seems to be a similar tale. Second game after myself, a good friend, and the wife had warmed up to things and decided to do a friendly 3 way free for all, everyone in an x-wing. First turn, I target lock as there is nothing significant to do. Well wife decides to shoot through an asteroid at 3 range anyways. hit, hit, crit against my blanks and eyes. First turn in and I have no shields and a console fire. Splendid. Turn 2 and it's now a 1 vs 1 while I get the privilege of reading the rule book and cards again while my "loved ones" enjoy the game...

your a-wing should of rolled 3 evade dice, not 2

I actually have never flown a ship outside of the battlefield. I have, however, played matches with people that have done so. I hate to see it happen to them.
