How much damage should a character take if a Jedi decides to use Force Move straight up? It seems like if the Force user moves someone straight up and lets go that they should take falling damage. What do you think? Should the normal Force Move damage be assigned or falling damage?
Force Move Up
I guess the GM could apply falling damage as either wounds or strain if they felt like it. There's a table in the core rule book that describes falling damage based on distance so the rules already cover this.
CRB p. 215 has a chart for falling damage.
Falling damage rules is what you are going to be looking for.
With that being said, there is something uncomfortably evil about a person being picked up and dropped from on high.

Very Dark Side, unless it's a droid of course....

Very Dark Side, unless it's a droid of course.... Well that depends as well, if the droid is someones property as all droids rightfully are. Then I believe it is dark side across the board. Can't have Jedi vandalizing and being neutral now can we?
Edited by 13713A Jedi wouldn't pick something up and drop it in the first place if it would be a dark action.

Nope...Obi Wan uses this move when he can. ~0:55 he shoves Bane off a 'cliff', then calmly walks over, takes a look and see if it worked.
Bane has rocket boots, so. yeah.
ObiWan & Quinlon Vos vs Cad Bane.
I don't think there is anything in the Jedi Code about using the Force in a fight. You need to show your opponent MERCY, which is the important part, there's no need to be FAIR, particularly against opponents that are dangerous.
In this fight it's clear that the only way to beat Bane is to kill him, it's too dangerous to try to take him alive. I mean, if Obi Wan had the opportunity I'm sure he would take Bane prisoner, but they're not pulling any punches here.
Edited by TarlSSI agree using it to defend yourself is fine. The OPs question though wasn't conditional on the person being able to resist or what not. It was a simple pick up a drop scenario. Plus in that clip Obi Wan is already aware Bane has rocket boots and his Force push wasn't to drop Bane into oblivion, it was to save Quinlan's life.
The big reason why I asked the question is that the falling damage seems deadly and easy. Picking up someone to long range high and dropping them straight up incapacitates and does 30 strain as well. It’s a one shot kill. Throwing a large rock (or starship) at someone for comparable damage is harder. It takes more XP investment and the GM has to allow something big enough to be within range.
My only solace in this is that it takes three pips to use Move with Strength and Range upgrades to do either method.
If you wanted to be more evil, you could pick someone up and slam them into something high in the air, then let go. Doubtful you'd need the additional damage, given how deadly falling from a great height is, but it's an option nonetheless.
Do we ever see anyone in the films picked up by the Force? I know that in the EU it gets used a bit to lift people (including some self-levitation), but I don't recall ever seeing it used in such a manner on an organic/sentient being in the movies.
Not in a combat way, to do damage, but C-3PO got lifted to impress the Ewoks.
