Stupid Talent Questions

By paladin2019, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

True or False...

1. Talents are not exclusive to a particular specialty. The Grit talent of Bodyguard and Mercenary is the same talent and a Bodyguard/Mercenary who spent the 5xp to learn it as a Bodyguard doesn't have to drop 20xp to go from Command to True Aim.

2. If the words "per rank" don't appear in the Talent description, you do not have to select it again if it's in a branch of a Talent tree. Thus, while the Marauder has Toughness in four places on the Talent tree, it is +2 wounds not +2 wounds per rank so it can only be taken once. If not, does it count farther own the tree if a single instance was learned earlier?

Basically, can a Maruader gain +2 or +8 to wound threshold and does he have to have at least +4 to get his second rank of Frenzied Attack?

3. This means you can only take Dedication once as it's not a ranked talent. Or, if Dedication was a requirement for anything in your new specialization, you could claim credit for it from learning it on an old specialization's tree.

4. For a Force Exile to get Intense Focus or Overwhelm Emotions, he must advance all the way down to Street Smarts and then turn inward and work back up the tree.

Welcome!

Also, there are no stupid questions, just stupid talents. Like Familiar Suns.

1) TRUE. And FALSE. For non-Ranked talents (crap you either have or you don't (e.g. Quick Draw)) you can skip past them once you get to them if you've already purchased. Grit is Ranked - every time you buy it you get +1 Strain Threshold.

2) Every time you buy Toughness, your Wound Threshold increases by 2 (e.g. if you bought it 5 times your starting WT would have increased by 10).

You could avoid taking two levels of Toughness and still get two ranks of Frenzied Attack. Frenzied Attack (5 xp), Feral Strength (5 xp), Heroic Fortitude (10 xp), Toughened (15 xp), Frenzied Attack (15 xp). Don't know why you'd want to, though. Marauder is effectively the Tank of EotE - grab as much of that stuff as you can.

3) Dedication is Ranked. Every time you buy Dedication you choose one characteristic and it goes up by one (can't raise crap above 6). This is the only way to increase characteristics except for cybernetics. You can buy it once per Specialisation (so dropping into multiple specs - in or out of your career - can make you a very versatile character).

4) Yup. Some Specs have dumber more difficult and restictive paths through their talent trees than others (Slicer has a very specific bottleneck).

(Also, Overwhelm Emotions also doesn't stack with left-hand Control upgrade in the tree of the Influence power. One's a slightly finessed version of the other.)
