EOTE supplements you'd like to see

By glewis2317, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I really love it when people start applying real world logic to Star Wars. It makes me giggle.

The more I think about it, the more I want a Colonist and Technician sourcebook.

Since DC is the most recent sourcebook and has a good amount of options for weapons, ships, and combat characters, I'd really like to see a few non-super-combatant Career books next, particularly Technician, Colonist, and Smuggler (in that order).

While I think combat is a big and important part of the game, combat stuff gets support in virtually every book (at least equipment-wise) so I'd like to see more options focused on non-combat before the Bounty Hunter book is released and gives even more combat-oriented options.

While I know we have Force & Destiny on the way next year or so, I'd really like to have a book dedicated to the Force in Edge of the Empire. Maybe explain what it's like to be hunted by the Emperor's Hands, Inquisitors and Vader, while also giving new gear, further explanations on Force powers and maybe some stats on important NPCs.

Alternatively, I'm still hoping that Rebels is good enough to have some source material made for it.

Aside from more career books and adventures, I'm honestly not sure. We have to keep in mind that the license is only for a short time and the FFG has two other games to support in the line (not to mention the billion others they make). After the ball is rolling, I'm not sure if the supplement gravy train is necessary or wise, since AoR and F&D will be needing their own support.

If we do see any setting books, I'd kind of like them to be "tri-stat'ed." For example, if we get a book for the ever iconic Tatooine, I'd like to see material for the smugglers and outriders of EoR alongside Rebel conflicts and local sympathizers for AoR and [insert setting appropriate material here] for F&D, all in one place. Adventure hooks, game integration tips, new content, and game neutral material can all find a home here, and would be a great way to boost all three lines without the need to slow development down.

Aside from that, I'm at a bit of a loss. FFG is known mostly for their large supplements and adventures, but there hasn't been enough out yet to see trends. Everything else is just wishlisting.

More like beyond the Rim, adventures to live in

We have to keep in mind that the license is only for a short time

Wait - how do we know this? I've never seen any indication for length of contract - and FFG is certainly not going to broadcast "Well, the game only has a shelf life until 2015". That would be marketing suicide.

I'd say the license is probably through the end of 2015 and that FFG is putting together a pitch that rolls the game into Star Wars VII-IX.

I'd say the license is probably through the end of 2015 and that FFG is putting together a pitch that rolls the game into Star Wars VII-IX.

I doubt it is that short, both compared to the duration of the license for other holders and for their proposed roll-out. They wouldn't have drafted a plan to release a core (potentially the most popular) near the end of the year the license ends.

You know, I doubt any of us can speculate with too much authority on the license. I wouldn't assume that FFG will lose Star Wars whenever the contract is up. It's possible but not a forgone conclusion. Dark Horse lost the comics, but that was due to the fact that Disney bought Marvel and they are set up to give Star Wars comics a wider audience.

The difference is that Disney doesn't own an RPG company. They'll make more money with the licenses. Is there another company out there that has the cheddar to compete with FFG when it comes time to bid or negotiate or whatever they do for the license? One or two maybe. Do those companies want it?

Then again, I'm just speculating as well.

Unlikely that it would be as close as that. At the BARE minimum, I'd say at least 2016 - one full year of F&D support. But any company that puts in that much effort to produce a line of books would be foolish to cut themselves off after just four years of releases like that. Sure I'm speculating too, but its probably safe money that we'll see the line run past that.

RPG companies have been taking it on the chin for a while now, so probably the only company that has the ability to pick up the line would be WotC. And since they let it go because it was not worth the hassle and costs associated, the odds of them picking it up again are slim to none.

For the love of the Force, can we get an alien compendium! The idea of having to buy so many sourcebooks to get a few aliens here, and a few aliens there means I'm just not going to have access the alien stats I need to play this game. Apparently Han Solo isn't the only one who's a quite a mercenary.

We know that WotC intentionally gave up the license, so there's that. (EDIT: Desslok beat me to it)

Plus, after EotE's popularity, I wouldn't wanna be some other company going, "no no guys, play our Star Wars game!" :)

1) I'd like to see EDGE of the Empire source books. I mean the RPG is about PC's scratching a living on the edges of the Empire as far away from the Imperial influence as they can. The game is even named Edge of the Empire. And yet the first sector sourcebook is a Core World? How about some sourcebooks that do NOT cover old been there before stuff. How about books for the Outer Rim or even Wild Space?

2) Starships and the Galaxy. Not just a splat book of premade ships designs, but an actual EotE/AoR RPG ship and star system design book. Maybe a book that has:

Chapter 1: New options for running starship combat, in and out of atmosphere. Expanded information on handling ship combat.

Chapter 2: Exploration, Astrogation and the wonders and dangers of Hyperspace.

Chapter 3: Designing a Starship in game terms. I don't want complicated, but I do want something that I can use to stat out a starship that doesn't involve me looking at existing ships and then taking a wild guess. I like to use deck-plans, not to run figures around or anything, but as a visual aid. There are a LOT of great deck-plans available that fit the feel of Star Wars. But very few of the are Star Wars and most of the ones I have are not stat'd. So to use them I guess. I would LOVE to have some kind of coherent guide. Something that would tell me just how the abstract silhouette is computed? Just how much tonnage is a 400 Encumbrance Capacity? Etc. I mean I like the Millennium Falcon and the Correllian Corvette, but those aren't the only two ships in the galaxy, but you can find a deck plan.....

Chapter 4: Several Starships stated out with a simple Deck Plan and picture. And at least one example starship build in narrative form that includes the reasoning of the choices. Most importantly! All the ships were made using the rules in the design chapter.

Chapter 5: Designing a star system in the FFG SW rule-system. Cover narrative and game system concerns when you are designing the new star system you player just discovered. Planets? Asteroid belts? Is it habitable? Is there life? Does it have people? Are their ancient ruins? Other cool stuff? and so on. A fast chart driven 'insto-star system' for when you need one fast after that horrendous and epically failed Astrogation roll.

And then...

I'd like themed books. So, we have the career books and sector books, but what about some books that covers themes and styles of play - so for instance a book on exploration, not just the career or some adventure, but a resource on creating new worlds, exploration based stories and campaigns, a few new and existing worlds to be explored. New gear and vehicles not room for in EtU, but also more specific guidelines and suggestions for those types of games, how to fit different careers into it, covering various specialisation combinations between careers for instance.

--snip--

-I mean these would also work well in AoR, instead of just a career book on Soldier or Engineer, you can have a SpecForce themed book, an Espionage themed book, a Fleet book and so on. Focusing not entirely upon career alone, but styles and themes of play.

Theme books! Like Jegergyte said. Not so much a career or place book and much as a style or type of game.

I can't argue they have done a bang-up job with the roll out and immediate term support. But I hope they move from baby steps to full on expansion.

What I mean is that the current Career and Module books are great (except for them being hardback, but that is another discussion ;) ) as is the Sector Book. I would definitely continue the Career books in their current format. Slow controlled and play-tested player character additions should be handled carefully.

But there are areas that are very very sparse but here are a few things.

This is STAR WARS! And yet starships are very very lightly covered. Lightly covered across the board. It is virtually impossible to run anything starship related without having to 'make up something' to cover a hole. I don't need a massive complicated tome. But I do need basic details of the terms used. A certain amount of vagueness in a system is good because it doesn't hamstring a GM or Player. But being so vague as to define nothing is worse. Take starship cargo. Encumbrance? Just what does that mean in tonnage/volume? We can all understand tonnage and volume. But an abstract value called Encumbrance? Works great for a single player character because a PC simply doesn't carry much on their person. But the term loses meaning when you try to apply it to cargo in measured in tonnage without some kind of guidance.

A Guide book to Aliens. I am not talking about make a player character detail, but I really do need the details at least to the depth of the Adversaries chapter in the Core Book.

A guide to non-PC Droids. Droids are both Gear and PC/NPC's and the listing seem to be haphazardly mashing the two together.

Stop That! They serve two completely different purposes in a game.

All 'Gear' droids need to be listed as commodities just like a a pair of binoculars if they are super specialized or at most as minions.

If they are not 'Gear' droids then they are Droids and you can't buy them out of the book. You have to build them like characters and include them in adversary lists like any other NPC.

I agree on the aliens books. Convert all the ones from the WotC and WEG games (except for the ultra-rare ones like Kari and Charon). Also, convert areas that appeared in those games, such as Elrood, and make new ones.

Also, a career book for Colonists, with new bits for Politicos, Doctors and Scholars.

A book for new gear, not weapons - stuff like comlinks, datapads, hand computers and medical supplies.
