Any info on co-op PoD release?

By MyNeighbourTrololo, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Sorry if it's been posted somewhere, I just couldn't find it. Seen review recently and now I'm super thrilled for it.

All we know is that it will be commercially available "later this year."

Retailers just got theirs hands on the promo kits for the Games Night event. I'm not actually sure if the Games Night has happened yet or not. I wouldn't expect the POD to hit retail for a few months at least.

I just hope it's not like LotR LCG, where game night kit stuff becomes available 6 moths after release of game night kits...

I heared that it will be released close to GenCon 2014.

besides I think that this will be interesting to many of Descent Players that Christian T. Petersen said on BGG, if I remeber correctly, that they are planing and designing a lot of content for Descent. What's more Descent is in the top 3 of the best selling FFG games right after X-wing and Netrunner. So they will be supporting this game for many years to come and many new expansions are comming. He could not give details but this is a very good news especialy when You consider some voices saing about the game burning out.

it also looks like the co-op POD will be one of the expansion lines and will have more then just one product.

Cheers

Beren

I hope they will release big co-op expansion with all that pods and cover all expansions.

Well, knowing FFG, a thing like that would never happen. They MIGHT consider releasing a big-medium box expansion dedicated fully to a co-op experience, but I highly doubt they'll do an expansion that is combination of co-op pods.

They are stupid, there and on BGG are possitive reviews to pods and many people are asking to release co-op expansion. So why not ?

I doubt they'd release a box expansion that included Forgotten Souls (or any other small POD co-ops they might release), but I could see them releasing a co-op box that included stats for all monsters and so on in all expansions released to date.

Something similar to what they did with Road to Legend - it was a large departure from the established game mode of D1E previously seen, so it included retroactive stats for everything that came before and a compiled rulebook that explained everything you might need to know. Then, going forward, each new expansion would include co-op stat cards for the new monsters they introduce, and so on.

In terms of using expansion tiles in maps for whatever actual content such a box might include, it would likely be 90% core box and whatever tiles come with the co-op box. There'd be a couple of tiles from each other expansion, but not many. And rules to separate the content you don't have, in case someone doesn't own all the expansions.

I'm not saying it will happen for sure, but if they wanted to do it, that's the basic model I'd expect them to follow.

They are stupid

Because I'm sure you know the gaming business WAY better than this company which has made it their sole focus for almost 20 years now. I'm sure they have a number of reasons for everything they do, and they aren't ever required to tell us what those reasons are.

Try not to insult them, especially so naively and in their own home (i.e. on their own forums); it just makes you look bad, not them.

This statement made me laugh out loud, and I have had nothing to do with this thread up until now. Having said that ...

So basically if I disagree with an approach that an organization is taking, I am not at liberty to provide feedback, comments, opinions, etc.? Really? Truly? Where exactly are we living again?

I am sorry but just because a business has been around for 20 years DO NOT mean they understand their business, or the markets within which they operate. I can name you plenty of examples of where this is the case, and for organizations that have been around far longer than FFG. And quite frankly, while I enjoy FFG's games very much, and have made substantial investments in them for the length of their existence, they absolutely DO make some incredibly stupid decisions, despite their alledged expertise in their market place.

They have made bad strategic decisions, they have made bad design decisions, they constantly make poor on going decisions when it comes to their games and those games development, testing, etc.

So please, spare us the holier than thou attitude. FFG has much room to improve.

There's a difference between "disagreeing, providing feedback, comments, opinions, etc.", and being disrespectful and insulting while doing so. I like to think we tend to have a higher standard of common decency than a bunch of 12 year olds throwing insults around (though it's starting to become more and more likely that I'm wrong about this) and I'd like to help maintain (or elevate us to) that standard. Call it "holier than thou" if you will, sink to that level if you will, and I'll point out immaturity and rudeness as I will. If you've paid any attention, you'll see that I've called out FFG for their bad decisions in the past, but I've never dropped to the level of calling them names.

I also try not to assume that I know all of the factors that go into their decisions. Everyone is a critic and thinks they know better from the outside, but few actually have all of the information and few actually step up and run their own company of their scale, so unless you can prove that you do have what it takes to do so (by doing it), you've yet to prove that you can actually make those calls better than FFG can (FYI: hind-sight doesn't count, and I'm sure they've realized themselves that they've made bad decisions in the past. But clearly they're doing something right and seem to be making more good ones than bad ones or otherwise they wouldn't be one of biggest booths at almost every major gaming convention there is.)

There are plenty of situations in life where you can identify something as "stupid", and be absolutely correct, without having all of the information. Having said that, I do agree with you that more often than not, there are more constructive ways to provide feedback that can demonstrate your point effectively, without alienating your target audience.

For the record, I am unlike much of the target audience of this site, as I am 52 years old (far older, I suspect, than most participants). Also, I began a company from scratch, grew it to 34,000 employees privately, and took it public, before selling my share of it a number of years ago. I think I have "been there, done that", and certainly do understand the impact poor decisions can make on your organization, its success, and ultimately the product and service you provide your customers.

Trust me, I have made plenty of mistakes myself - some of them truly atrocious. One of the reasons my company was as successful as it was, was in large part due to feedback that I received from inside and outside of the organization; often, that feedback tended to be brutally honest, holding no punches, and very difficult to hear. Nevertheless, it is exactly what was called for, and the primary motivator in driving me to succeed, and providing a more refined product to my customers.

So, while there may be more effective ways to communicate, the feedback provided by Bladen above should stand without ridicule; it is, after all, I assume his true feelings/beliefs.

The sad part of all of this is the fact that I don't think FFG pays near enough attention (if any at all) to these forums; as a result, I think they miss out on a very important resource for connecting with their customers, and learning from mistakes.

Again ... just my two cents worth.

Lets not forget that a comment like "thats stupid" with nothing to back it up does absolutely nothing to persuade the powers at be from swinging to your side of the argument. If you have an idea and you would like it to be implemented some well worded constructive criticism would probably be heard a lot louder.

This said, i certainly understand the frustration that comes from how FFG are releasing expansions for this game and how they do not have the synergie that they could potentially have.

Calling someone (or a company stupid) for engaging in a specific behavior that you disagree with is not the same thing as calling the behavior itself stupid. "They are stupid" is an insult.

"I disagree with their decision, because...." is a much more polite, friendly, and more importantly, respectable way of going about it, and you're much more likely to be taken seriously.

Well said. 'Nuff said.

I can understand this sentiment, but don't confuse "not engaging/contributing in these forums" with "not paying attention to them". They definitely do read them. (I've pointed out a discussion when asking a Rules Question and the response mentioned that they had already seen it.) Unfortunately without that interaction, it's hard to know for certain, though there have been a few hints (suggestions implemented down the road, etc., but those could be coincidental).

Just because you're 52 years old doesn't make you mature, which is obvious. You apparently can't communicate with people in a respectful and intelligent way. I wish I could just block your name so I don't have to look at your stupid comments again.

That was a little too harsh.

I don't know who this is in reference to, but this is rather hypocritical.

Im sorry, it was a knee jerk reaction to what I was reading. I dont come to these forums often and was just looking for info on this co-op variant. When I started reading a debate over the appropriate use of the word stupid I hit the reply button.

I feel as grifton I think does, that there is no need to ever use the word stupid, and I was trying to make a point with the wording of my message. When I see people use the word stupid I just think of an ignorant, uneducated person.

Anyways, Ive wasted enough time here,

Happy gaming.

In that case, we're in agreement.
