5 X-Wings + 200 points = ?

By TomRK, in X-Wing

As a continuation of my post yesterday regarding the merits of collecting a Starter Set, let us assume that I not only buy one but I do in fact buy three to get enough ships for a triple X-Wing squadron. As if that isn't enough, I then buy the X-Wing Expansion and the Rebel Transport.

This gives me five X-Wings and I wondered what might be done with them.

The lazy list amounts to five Red Squadron Pilots. Each gets a Shield Upgrade and Proton Torpedoes for a total of 155 Points and leaving plenty of points for Astromechs. Perhaps have a character and four Red Squadron Pilots.

For a new player like me, that might be a good starting point. But frankly I have my sights on a five character squadron.

So what would you do with 5 X-Wings and 200 points?

Reinact Porkins crashing

Phew, tall order :)

I would start with Wedge as the leader.

Buddy up Biggs with Wes, Wes being the hunter keeping the enemy unfocused.

Tarn is flying in front of the enemy, daring them to TL them, and Garven Dreis giving him focus.

That's the five pilots, now to think about droids and mods and torpedoes.

200pts split between 5 xwings averages to 40pts/ship. Even w/ upgrades that's hard to fill out, but I'll give it a shot. I assume you only want 5 xwings, because w/ those reds w/ shields & torps you have room for Lando or Chewie in a YT-1300.

Wedge w/ PTL, R2, Engine upgrade & APT (43pts)

Luke w/ DTF, R2-D2, Engine upgrade & PT (41pts)

Biggs w/ R2-F2 & Shield upgrade (32pts)

Jek w/ PTL, R5-D8, Hull upgrade & APT (41pts)

Wes w/ squad leader, R3-A2, shield upgrade & APT (43pts)

200pts exactly.

Thinking about while waiting for my gf to finish fitting some dresses.

Wedge and Wes are the hunting wing of this team. Wes with Wingman, attacking first. Wedge with opportunist shooting next and clearing thw stress easily next turn through a generic r2 and Wes in case of a stress inducer, which I expect will be everywhere for a while.

The other three form the anvil to the W's hammer. Biggs, hobbie, garven, decked out with a bunch of survivability stuff to hit hard and hit long.

I suspect the unspoiled ept's that are coming may hold some useful stuff.

Some good ideas ( including crashing Porkins lol )

If I've got enough points left after 5 X-Wings I most certainly would add in another ship. The point is 5 X-Wings, not using up all the points with X-Wings.

I was thinking, baring in mind I'm a newbie and could be stupid here, that the characters and upgrades I'd go for are as follows:

Wedge

R5, Proton Torpedoes, Marksmanship, Shield Upgrade

Wes

R5, Proton Torpedoes, Push the Limit, Shield Upgrade

Luke

R5, Proton Torpedoes, Elusiveness, Shield Upgrade

Biggs

R5, Proton Torpedoes, Shield Upgrade

Hobbie

R5, Proton Torpedoes, Shield Upgrade

Total = 189 points

As a new player, you may be jumping ahead a bit, by trying to justify 5 X-Wing lists in the 150-200 point range. You are probably better off flying 60-100 point lists until you are familiar with the mechanics of the game and characteristics of each pilot. I would suggest 1 starter and 1 X-Wing expansion if you plan on just flying X-Wings to begin with. You have plenty of time to jump into the deep end of the pool with another starter set (or two) and other ships later. There is no need to try flying 5 X-Wings in your first month. ;)

This is much truth.

This is totally not what you asked for. But I think this would make for a good 200 point list that uses a relatively small number of ships:

Keyan Farlander + Advanced Sensors + Push the Limit + Advanced Proton Torpedoes (41)

Garven Dreis (26)

Biggs Darklighter (25)

Dagger Squadron Pilot + Advanced Sensors (27) x4

At 200 points, 8 ships would be "standard". 5 is crazy low especially if they are just X-wings.
