First expansion for rebel beginners

By draugoner1, in X-Wing

I just recently got the core set with my friend. I have claimed the rebels. Because I had some cash and a Barnes and noble gift lying around, I want to get an expansion. I was, however, wondering which to get. I'm torn mostly between the B-wing,X-wing, and Y-wing.

If you out there in the community could help me out, that'd be great!!!

B's are the new heavy hitter for the rebels with the Heavy Laser Cannon.

Y wing will open up your options with its turret.

X will give you better pilots and more ships for your x's.

I would recommend the A-Wing actually. While not very competitive in the tourney scene currently, the A-Wing is super maneuverable and therefore a lot of fun to fly. Tycho Celchu is insane with Daredevil or Push the Limit; you'll literally be flying circles around your opponent.

The Y-Wing has the ion turret, and some of its upgrades are also usable on the X-Wing. It's a logical second purchase.

The B-Wing is a very fun, tough ship, but it's more similar to the X-Wing than the other Rebel ships. Personally, I'd rather have something entirely new rather than mostly new.

The X-Wing expansion gives you more pilots, upgrades, and another X-Wing. If you're still getting the hang of the game, that may be the way to go since you'll only have one type of ship to control. A variety of ship types allows you to see what your favorites are, but are harder to fly together.

Have fun with whatever you pick! Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them. Eventually you'll want 6 of each ship. :D

X-Wing for sure. Wedge is still one of the best pilots in the game.

:(

Which I bought anyway because, hey, third core set.

You'll eventually get more anyway. It always happens. All of the Rebel ships work well independently, so I don't think you can go wrong. Well, avoid the HWK for now. Just pick one you like that looks cool and you'll do well for small point games. The X-wing pilots are great, the Y-wing's turret is fun, and the B-wing is a ridiculously heavy hitter.

With Johnny Reb, there is literally no bad purchase.

With the X-Wing expansion, the Y-Wing, and the HWK, you get access to Garven/Dutch/Kyle, who share actions, along with other good pilot combos.

With the Millennium Falcon, you get the strongest ship in the game. Han Shoots First is still a very valid list, especially for beginners.

With the B-Wing, you get the Rebel's most versitile ship. In different lists, it's the deadliest ship at Range 1 and the deadliest ship at Range 3.

With the A-Wing, you get the fastest ship in the game, and one of the best upgrades in the game. Come the Rebel Aces pack, this will also get a huge boost.

X-Wing for sure. Wedge is still one of the best pilots in the game.

Not one of the best Wedge is the best!

I think Han, Vader and Soontir would like to have a word with you...

X-wing, definitely, or failing that, Y-wing. There's a lot of overlap between them in upgrades, and whether you get X or Y it expands your options for both your ships. That, and more importantly, you'll be able to get them. A and B are pretty much impossible to find, at least for me.

I would go with a y wing. You already have x wings, and if you want to play with wedge you can always print out his card. The y wing is not super complicated as far as a dial, has the fun of an astromechs, and has a turret, which introduces an entirely new strategy set and flying style.

The b and a wings are great fun too.

I'm with the others in that I don't think you can really go wrong. The only thing I would say is that if you are going to get an X-Wing, only get one expansion X-Wing. In the long run, it will be more cost effective to simply get an additional Core set or two (assuming you also eventually want to play imps).

Personally, I would go with the Falcon just because it can run on its own in a 50 point game and be competitive, plus once you have that, the other rebel expansions will be easier to pick up as money comes in (since the Falcon is twice as much). Additionally, the Falcon is very beginner friendly.

Me personally, I love both the X and the B, and the A wing has PTL which is a great upgrade card that is almost always useful. The HWK is more of a support ship, so likely is better suited for a later purchase. I don't have much experience with the Y but it does definitely open up some interesting additional options with the ion cannon.
