Vader List Thoughts?

Had a friend counsel me on these two Vader lists. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Y the way... I REALLY want Vader in a list or two. So please no "Don't use him," comments please. :)

First off, replace Marksmanship with something else. Vader is unique in the sense that he can take two actions and not suffer stress for it. This makes Squad Leader a great upgrade for him. Heck, he might be the only pilot who can really use it!

Vader's best friends are Howlrunner (re-rolls) and Soontir Fel.(PtL fits so nicely with his ability).

Vader+Squad Leader+Engine

Soontir Fel+PtL

Howlrunner

This leaves you with 17 points for another tie and possible upgrades!

Or go with the Darevader - he's the only ship that can really make use of that too (except Tycho once Rebel Aces hits).

Now, he can F/TL/E + BR/Boost/DD... or BR/Boost + DD. Too bad he can't DD + BR since he'll be stressed after DD. Still, he's the only character that can boost + DD without assistance from someone else in order to basically turn around without turning around. Heh, 1 bank, 1 boost bank, 1 turn - that will turn him around (and be stressed) he'll just be horizontally farther away instead of vertically farther away.

Well... I was thinking of using Vader to sprint and flank using missiles and marksman early. In that case, marksman would work very well, would it not?

I agree with the Marksmanship comment... don't put it on Vader. Also, if you want missiles, might I suggest Concussion because you'll be able to fire those within the first few rounds at Range 3 (with TL + Focus).

Well... I was thinking of using Vader to sprint and flank using missiles and marksman early. In that case, marksman would work very well, would it not?

Marksmanship will take 1 action away, and Vader is only throwing 2 attack (3 in R1) dice. That's not worth the 3 pts.

If you use missiles, ALWAYS have a TL+Focus

But you'd be spending 3 points for a one time use only. Vader can do better. Honestly, Marks only works well with Luke and Stele because of their pilot abilities.

As for missiles, I like Concussion because it turns a blank into a hit. Add focus to that and you've got a max damage missile.

If you don't have boost you have to roll for damage, but you take stress either way.

Daredevil was updated in the FAQ in Oct. 2013

I guess it could go either way. Depends on the target and how hard the dice hit on the first attack. Vader could conceivably wallop a key opponent ship all by himself in the first round.

Just food for thought... I'm going to try out both options and find which one works better over a few friendly matches. Credit to Jeff for the info.

I personally disagree with Squad Leader in general, and certainly on a TIE Advanced. You're paying a tax of 2 to simply move an action from one ship to another. This essentially gives you a ship with 2 actions, and a TIE Advanced with 1 action. A TIE Advanced with 1 action is horribly overcosted. You might as well drop Vader for a more combat effective ship, and put PtL on someone, or just get better/more ships.

If you really want to use Vader, then use him in a way that takes advantage of his 2 actions. DareVader is a ton of points but is hyper-mobile. (Vader + Daredevil + Engine Upgrade).

Just my 2 cents.

Edit: If you look at the Store Championship thread, you'll see that Vader has been used in 3 ways:

  • Assault Missiles
  • 3 amigos (Vader + Soontir Fel + Turr)
  • Vader + Missile with Jonus backup (Cluster Missile and Assault Missile both being good options)

Vader with engine upgrade is crazy good. It will get you out of a bad spot from being ionized. I would keep Cluster with Vader to work over any B's or YT's that you might face.

From there it would be good to have either a big ship or a small swarmlet to be the meat of your squad and then an interceptor to be your flanker, moving in to finish of damaged ships.

If I was making a list I would go:

Vader

E.U.

Cluster

B.H.

Recon Specialist

R.Guard.

PTL

TC

B.H. would be the meat and the R.G. and Vader would be the flankers.
