Yuuzhan Vong: Only Speculation

By TomRK, in X-Wing

After all, the ysalamiri from the Thrawn trilogy were a version of the same idea.

Yes but in that case it is logical that a life form that's the prey of some sort of force sensitive predator would develop such a defense. But if this other galaxy doesn't have the force, then how could a life form develop a resistance to something that doesn't exist?

When was the last time the Jedi used the Force in a game of X-Wing?

If the answer to the question is never then why should that justify their Force Resistence to be a reason to keep them from games of X-Wing?

As for biotech being wrong for Star Wars. Does that really matter in a game of toy planes? What is the different between a biological Hull 3 and a Technological Hull 3?

I think by now FFG has got the point that most of you hate the Vong and it would be financially detrimental to the company for them to produce a wave of models few, if anyone, would buy.

The fact that this thread exists makes me hate the YV even more.

Poorly written, poorly implemented drivel that makes Han/Picard erotic fan-fic seem like a reasonable choice for some light reading before bed.

The ysalamari were not the characters. They added depth to the universe by explaining that there were other force sensetive creatures, and that creatures that worked against that. Much like the Hutts. The Vong, as presented were built 100% as anti jedi. Some of what they did was cool, but they didn't add any depth to the universe because they were designed as a counter to the Jedi, not as a unique culture or set of identities. There is a large difference there. They felt cheesy to many many fans, and I was never able to get past cultural masochism in the way they were presented. It felt juvenile... Like they were a bad stereotype of their own culture.

I totally get your objections to the Vong, and I think they're all valid. They've also made me consider a little more and realize that I'm kind of indifferent to the Vong themselves, more of what I love about the NJO is the impact they had on the galaxy at large and other characters. I still don't think the Vong are horrible, but I agree with Vorpal Sword that they're more of a narrative device. The only difference I guess is that I don't see that as such a bad thing in a Star Wars novel where I'm not really expecting literary genius.

About the X-Wing Miniature Game.

My point?

My point is why would people fiercely object to the Yuuzhan Vong's anti-force and biological nature if it doesn't effect the rules of the X-Wing Miniature Game about which this forum exists to discuss said game.

However, my comments are not a shot at those who are stating why they dislike, hate, or megaloathe the Vong. As that is a valid reason, albeit not game effecting in the slightest, to not want to collect or game with them. On the other hand, I wouldn't like to be a Vong player when you lot come at me with Rebel or Empire fleets.

As for "if you don't enjoy it don't read it"

EDIT: actually, I can imagine the horror of a tournement of 100 people and only 1 person likes and games with Vong. I'm having thoughts of 99 people shouting "he's got Vong...GET HIM!" Scary

I cannot call the direction the NJO books took the characters interesting. Han became a whiny drunk. Luke started some BS about non-interference. Anakin lost the chance to become a new generation of Hero. Jacen's character flipflopped completely, as if none of his earlier characterization mattered. The list goes on. (Personally I think they should have never tried to be Game of Thrones. Star Wars isn't cut out for it.)

As for the in game reasons. There aren't any just design changes that would be hard to implement(Other than shields probably needing a different mechanic. They would need a way to bypass Luke's focus abilities, as I'm pretty sure that represents the force. Most of the Jedi in the game have abilities that allow them to be more focused than other pilots. Beyond that, the whole way their flight works would leave them needing to feel very very different. Designing them so they weren't just rehashes would almost require a new starter, omni directional bases... I could go on. Like adding Helicopters to a fighter game.

All this time I've stayed glued to this forum. Never changing, washing or going to the toilet. If only I knew I could leave the discussion.

Perhaps I should move for the first time in over a month and see what is beyond this room. So hungry. So smelly. Legs so weak......

I've had to remind myself that just because I start a discussion doesn't mean I have to finish it. :P

But it's fun to have the last word :P

It is fun. I'm thinking circular bases... Two manuever dials. One that is directional, and another that gives the speed and template. The ships should have low hull values, 1-2 to make up for the manueverability. Not sure how to work out facing changes... :P

I see you are one who likes to have the last word. Two can play at that game..... :P

Black Hole Shields? Not sure. Instantly destroys the entire board making the game an instant draw.

Wormhole, Black Hole, Einstein_Rosenbridge, etc. They absorb lasers that fire on the ships.

I was thinking more of a cool ability for a ship to open a black hole and destroy the entire gaming board, games room, house, street, country, Earth and Solar System.

Wouldn't make for a long game, but what a way to go. Death by X-Wing game.
