Fantastic Fours first test

By Stone37, in X-Wing

So I played my Fantastic Fours against a formal local champion today. He asked me not to publish his exact fleet, but I can tell you it involved a number of tie fighters, a firespray, and a lambda.

Here is my list:

Red+R2

Grey+Ion

Roark+Ion

Dagger+Adv. Sensors

I only lost my X-wing, and the B-wing got beat up pretty bad.

I will be playing more tonight. What kind of lists should I ask my other friends to play to further test my build?

Easy answer is the 6 AP + Howl swarm. Especially if you plan on playing in any tournaments with that list. Likewise some sort of Bloody Dagger list, XXBB since that's a pretty dominant list now. 3rd would be a HSF type list.

I figure if you can do well against those 3 archetypes, then you should be able to deal with most anything else you go up against.

I saw a lot of double Falcons at the two tourneys I was at recently.

Just go through the Store Championship list and you'll see the most common builds. Your meta should also be considered as you play test. If no one in your area is playing Tie Swarms as an example do minimal testing there. Focus instead on the builds you see most around you.

On a side note, don't take one game played out as an example of a successful squad. If you really want good data on the build play 5 each way. Meaning your testing partner should play the build as well to eliminate player skill in the results. Player skill should also be considered but if it goes 5 wins one way and 5 loses the other you may want to test against someone else.

Thanks for the input. I've got a few friends coming over tonight to play. I'll see if I can't convince one of them to play with my build against me as well.

And yes, one win against one opponent doesn't prove too much; other than it's worth playing with again.

It looks like your friend was also playing low PS ships so your build definitely has an advantage shooting at PS 4 and 12. I can assume you focus fired on the firespray while ioning the tie fighters.

I got Howlrunner out of there first and then yeah.... as you said. Left the shuttle until last, just did my best to stay out of its way and used the asteroids to my advantage.

I have a feeling that PS 4 is still going to attack first most of the time in tournament play, as everyone is obsessed with getting as many ships as possible on to the board. I like this build because I haven't sacrificed too much in turn order or in the ordnance I like to place on these ships. Plus, Roark is killer with that ability. A few times I insured one less thing was getting the change to fire at me.

So I played the list three times last night. Twice myself and once another player used it against me. I went 1 and 1 with the list (Bad play on my part accounted for the loss) and my friend beat me with it.

It needs more play (as is) but I had a tweaking idea:

Biggs

Gold+Ion

Dagger+Adv. Sensors

Roark+Ion+Intel Agent

I lost the first game because I flew poorly and my B-wing went down FAST. The idea in this tweak is to keep my opponent off my B-wing via Biggs. To do this, I have to give up my Grey for a Gold, but I gain an Intel Agent. (The B-wing could take advantage of this knowing where a higher PS is going before hand.) This also throws off my synergy PS.

Thoughts? Do the positives outweigh the negatives?

How useful is the R2 on the Red when the only way it stresses itself is with a K-turn? I'd think that Astromech could be better on the Y-Wing or as crew on the HWK.

It was useful later in the game, but the Intel Agent would be a great counter for higher PS builds I might encounter.
