Question about the "Doom Shuttle"

By Zogwort, in X-Wing Rules Questions

When using the Darth Vader card ability, when it means "Suffer 2 damage," Does that damage come out of the hull even if I still have shields, or does the damage consume any shields I may have at the time?

Vader deals damage. That follows the "suffering damage" rules on page 16 of the rulebook. Any damage against either ship goes against the shields first.

I really need to do a full-blown damage detail post to just link every time this one comes up...

Edit: Just to be clear, not picking on you for it, Zogwart, it's just a VERY common question.

No worries.

I think its a word association thing. When I read Vader's "suffer 2 damage" in my mind I am thinking "receive 2 damage cards."

Nope, "suffer damage" is a very important and surprisingly consistent keyword used in this game. It directs you to page, what, 16 or something? of the rulebook, which outlines the steps for suffering damage - including checking for and removing shields before damage gets through to the hull.

There are one or two cards out there like Porkins and Proton Bomb that specify "deal a damage card," in which case it goes through shields. Otherwise, it's just normal damage.
